i think BAF was looking is looking for something twin engined like Rafale And EFT for MRCA due to range , maritime strike capability , better high altitude performance etc. At best we'll get an MRO plant for those and get some level of ToT for Gripen , F-16 . I think US will try to restrict what weapons package we get for F-16 , unlike EFT,Rafale where if we can pay for it, we can get almost everything.

If we get the gripen, we can use the same weapons package of EFT. IF we get F-16, we can use Turkish Armaments.

If range is the problem we will need air refuel tanker otherwise two engine fighters pose too much trouble for small airforce

Wayback machine (internet archive) says the BAS 2022 page was edited multiple times during the month of november 2020

DEFSECA published an article on his site on the 12th November 2020 (still up btw) copy pasting the schedule of the BAS 2022 website (on his article) before it was edited. Now i know you guys don't trust DEFSECA , and that's understandable but i swear i read the words '' Contracts to be signed (or something along those lines) '' when i first visited the BAS 2022 website sometime in october 2020.

It is very likely that MRCA winner will be announced on the BAS 2022. Look forward to it.

The point is that many experts or readers believe that Bangladesh cannot handle such a technologically advanced aircraft or has no funds to buy it. Recently, however, things are changing...

This is why we have never had any doubts

By carefully studying the steps taken by the nation in recent years, it is clear that it is investing heavily in modernizing its defense.

Since the current government took office about 11 years ago, the leaders have slowly begun to rebuild military aviation, replacing much of the systems and operating procedures. Today the Bangladesh Air Force boasts a high-level flight school. It is equipped with an advanced LIFT jet, the Yak-130, and will soon also receive the Grob G 120TP basic/intermediate trainer aircraft.

Although Dhaka previously considered purchasing new Russian fighters, the Sukhoi Su-30 on top, they realized that it would not provide the Air Force with any operational advantage, nor warrant surprise. The Su-30 is in fact the backbone of neighboring rivals, such as India and Myanmar. This element of surprise is essential to have an advantage over the largest enemy combat fleets and to maintain a high deterrence capacity. Furthermore, Dhaka did not like Moscow's decision to sell Yak-130 and SU-30 aircraft to Myanmar, upsetting the balance of regional air power. The same goes for the Dassault Rafale, which Paris offered to the government of Bangladesh, but which is also a core aircraft of the Indian Air Force.

The turning point

The major turning point came in 2015 when Marshal Abu Esrar became the new head of the Bangladesh Air Force. He decided it was time for a revolutionary change within the service. His plan was to phase out Russian and Chinese fighter jets in favor of those western-made. It is around this time that the nation began evaluating the Eurofighter Typhoon. Esrar immediately fell in love with the Typhoon after having thoroughly evaluated it, along with senior BAF experts, at the 2016 Farnborough International Air Show.

Eurofighter VS Su-30

While both offer similar performance, the Eurofighter is technologically more advanced than the Russian fighter. It boasts a good beyond visual range capability, while it is not clear how effective the Su-30 combat identification systems are. Further, the Typhoon’s cockpit and pilot vehicle interface are excellent, much better than anything found on the current Flanker variants.

The Eurofighter can also deploy the MBDA Meteor missile. The Meteor, which is a long-range ramjet powered weapon, is quite possibly the best beyond visual air-to-air missile developed to date. It has excellent end-game performance and could be the Typhoon pilots’ trump card.

There is no doubt that Russian jets have come a long way in technology since the end of the Cold War, but they still lag behind on in terms of sensors and pilot vehicle interfaces.

Advantage in pilot training

The Eurofighter is marketed in Bangladesh by the Italian aerospace firm Leonardo. This means that the Bangladesh Air Force will be able to take advantage of Italy's great experience in fighter pilot training.

When in 2019 the Chief of Staff of the Italian Air Force, Lt. Gen. Alberto Rosso, met with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka, Hasina asked him to organize advanced training for BAF pilots in Italy. Rosso confirmed the willingness of the Italian government to support this activity.

Budget

As for the funds, in recent months the Bangladesh Air Force has asked the government to allocate approximately 25,200 Crore Taka (3 billion dollars) for sixteen western multi-role fighters with an advance of 6,300 Crore Taka for the financial year 2021-22.

The winner will be announced at the Bangladesh Air Show (BAS) in February 2022.

UK is a member of the Euro Fighter Consortium and an interesting opportunity to discuss jets has been created, he said, adding that Typhoon Biman is very suitable for Bangladesh but its price is high. But it will be good for Bangladesh if they want to buy it.

Dassault was offered but BD proposed to use Dassault Aviation's tech in Aviation & Aerospace University's research.

After yesterday's ISPR release, just wanna highlight few events happened in last few months.

• UK high commissioner said, "Typhoon is very suitable for Bangladesh but its price is high. But it will be good for Bangladesh if they want to buy it. (টাইফুন বিমান বাংলাদেশের জন্য অত্যন্ত উপযোগী কিন্তু এর দাম বেশি। তবে এটি বাংলাদেশের জন্য ভালো হবে যদি তারা এটি কিনতে চায়।)
• Dassault was offered but kinda looks like BD turned it down.

British PM and French defense minister also offered EFT and Rafale.

• Air Chief Marshal Sheikh Abdul Hannan will meet with chief of United States Air Force General Charles Q. Brown Jr, Acting Director of Defense Security Cooperation Agency Mr Jedidiah P. Royal and visit the F-16, F-18 production facilities.

Just seven months ago, his predecessor Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat also met with chief of United States Air Force and Director of Defense Security Cooperation Agency. He discussed about MRCA, GSOMIA and ACSA. He also visited F-16, F-18 production facilities. I haven't seen this type of activities for EFT, Rafale. 2020's report says Dhaka showed interest in American fighter jet which we didn't see about EU fighters.

Now all just depend on the official announcement.

F-16's assembly line opened in Poland. It's manufacturing facilities also exist in Netherlands, Belgium, Turkey, and South Korea. No update on Indian part though. It's not like any country can do anything if we get F-16.

Besides if BD gets F-16 we'll get our own MRO facility according to PM's statement. Probably said it before, one benefit i see in F-16 is the possibility of integrating all Turkish weapons into it, specially AAM and cruise missile. Also we can probably take Turkey's assistance in maintaining them .

And like I mentioned before in the other forum, spending 3 billion on f16 is a better proposition since the capabilities will be similar to eurofighter but we also add numbers which we desperately need. We need workhorses. Not garage queens

You should do it years ago, F-16 actually fit for your requirement, but you need Amraam to do the jobs

Couldn't find the source but if i remember correctly they are trying to reduce EFT's operating cost to 12000-15000 USD which is lower than F-16's operating cost 22000-24000 USD.

If your country signing for new F-16 today the first delivery would take some time between four to five years from the activated contract dates, maybe more. We got at least 140 or something backlog order, in which by 2026 the production line still wouldnt finish the order backlog.
