Surprisingly BAF removed all three video of former chief's farewell speeches from FB and youtube. That's why i can't verify some points mentioned here.

Out of interest, which channel is the BAF youtube official channel?

Mysteriously Removed just like the Bangladesh Air Show 2022 Agenda page.
If you scrolled down on that page it stated that ''DAY 4: Contracts will be Signed''
very strange though.
I am hopeful BAF will announce the winner of MRCA competition and order it.
cant find it anywhere , but i am 100% certain it was there, should have taken a screenshot.

I should've downloaded those three videos, Thought i would watch the last two speeches when i have time.

Would we not need more trainers if we wanted to increase the number of fighter squadrons to 10 ? Maybe current fleet of IJT might not be enough ?

Let them announce the contract and replace the existing fleet first.

Also IF we get a mix of EFT and Gripen , why not just get a complete gripen only fleet ?

Weapons, payload, hard points, engine, performance, strings attached.........we discussed it a lot. Plenty videos available on YT about Gripen Vs EFT.

If you scrolled down on that page it stated that ''DAY 4: Contracts will be Signed''

So that's why everyone was confidently talking about contract signing, eh? Missed another thing.

BAF has some serious love for American fighter jet. From 1976-1977 in two years BAF tried to get F-5E-21, F- 4, F-104G, G-91Y and Chinook including Hawk SAM , four C-130 and lots of other things. Then they tried to get F-16 and F-18C. And now BAF is trying AGAIN.

I saw it too.But why dId they remove that?

Somebody must have told them to do so to avoid any external pressure. Cause USA, UK, Italy, France even India is interested to sell weapons to us. There is obviously some lobbying like @Destranator mentioned. We don't really need to show that we are interested in Sea Ceptor or when we are signing the deal for any aircraft. Announce it after the contract signing and keep it tight-lipped till then just like the submarine procurement. Some country might use our basic trainer deal as bargain.

Could have been a formidable air force with the F-5E (cheap to operate) and F-4 phantom II. I guess jimmy carter wasn't very interested in selling weapons like Reagan. Zia was pro-western so its very natural that he requested American fighters.

Getting access to US equipment and training is very good but it has some downsides of course.

The problem was the economy. US didn’t want to sell to a nation which was compared to Sudan
We even got rejected in 1996 for f16s

We even sent pilots to train in Turkey , which is suspect was for F-16 training.

how long do you think the F-7MB airframes will be fit for service ? maybe 2025 ? They need to put a tender , this time with a fair competition instead of ''Russian only'' Allow participation of Saab and Lockheed. Not sure about J-10C as recent events prove that China cannot be trusted on Burma.
We will also need 2 AWACS (one for nothern command and one for southern command to monitor sea and burma). BAF will also need some heavy transport aircraft like C-17 (which could help in UN deployment). Can i also add that we may need some kind of Aerial EW capability too.
As the economy grows , we can expect such things.

About f7s I can’t tell, depends on the flight hours logged. If each pilot is getting 200hr/yr which I suspect they get half of then they should last quite a while. Especially the bgi

riyaz trained on f16 was sent to turkey

Anyone has the feeling that Uncle Sam might arm-twist and we end up getting F-16s and not EFTs?
Gripen would have been ideal, but Swedes stand no chance in face of US influence over BD.

Doubt it. They already refused to sell us anything MULTIPLE times so that already gives them a bad rep. USA already said that they don't see BD through Delhi's eye. So that indicates that there will be lobbying for MRCA but US won't play dirty. It will only agitate BD further.

US can have all the influence over the Swedes but doubt it will effect BD. Look, US has more influence over Brazil, Hungary, Czech Republic and Philippine than BD but these countries chose Gripen instead of American fighter. So i doubt US really care that much about what fighter we choose.

Also BD's activities since Rohingya issue or even before that (if we consider), FM's statement on IPS+Quad, army chief's statement about buying what's best for us, former air chief's farewell speeches, PM's instruction, recent resolution on Myanmar at UN and other things show us that BD is treading carefully and not letting others to exploit/arm twist us. BD is well aware about how these major powers try to hassle with small countries like us.

it is hard to imagine for me how we can actually maintain both EFT (for MRCA) and F-16 (as single engine alternative) in future - as many are assuming it to be the case.
I don’t see us having twin and single engine western jets, we are struggling with getting just one squadron a combo is a daydream

It was also hard to imagine the we would actually be a potential customer of EFT before but that became reality. So it's too early say that we can't fly a single engine with EFT when we haven't even decided or signed any contract. All depends on the economy, budget and govt's goodwill. People are thinking way too much. এত প্যারা নেয়ার কোন কারন দেখি না।

Buying EFT doesn’t get any any leverage.

Best air superiority fighter in this region with full weapon package, less string attached, no need wait for congress or DoD's approval. Getting F-16 as the backbone of the fleet or only operating it for next 30+ years will absolutely suicidal and stupid idea. If US can't arm twist/influence us much now then they sure will be able to do it after that.

IF we get F-16, we can use Turkish Armaments.

I think Bilal from Quwa once said that inntegrating Turkish weapon specially AAM in new F-16 would cost more. Did any Turkish AAM become operational?

Exactly, US has lots of leverage over Philippines , but they went for Gripen.

Even if it is more expensive to initially integrate , we will not have to get Congressional approval from house and senate. Plus i highly doubt US would give us access to weapons like AGM-88 HARM, Harpoon, Penguin, JDAM, JASSM and many more. We can get the Turkish equivalents like SOMs, SAM decoy missiles etc. IF we ever get F-16s that is.
All i know about Turkish AAM development is that they are being tested and evaluated.

Hopefully we can also get the SPEAR+Storm Shadow Combination.

I don't see us signing GSMIOA and ACSA anytime soon for obvious reasons.

Just so everyone knows, my preference is EFT+Gripen , but that doesn't really matter tbh.
