Bangladesh Navy (BN) is planning to establish satellite communication in various phases among different BN bases/Marine units considering a total of 75 remote terminals using Bangabandhu Satellite-1 (BS-1). The VSAT network will be designed to work and integrate a total of 75 remote VSAT terminal stations in various phases with a provision to up-gradable up to 200 remote VSAT terminal stations in future. Initially, one VSAT Hub Station along with 15 X Remote Terminal Stations shall be procured for this purpose.

On 19 October 2021, a brand new General Atomics AeroTec Systems (GA-ATS) Do228NG performed its first flight from Oberpfaffenhofen (Bavaria, Germany). The aircraft is the third Bangladesh Navy Do228-212NG, adding to the two already in service. It was already seen in full colour scheme on 12 October during an engine test.

The Do228-212NG, with serial number 314-03 and registration S3-VHS (c/n 8322) flew with test registration D-CAEO as "Dornier 211" from Oberpfaffenhofen. This latest purchase by Bangladesh is the first of a follow-up order of two which will augment the existing fleet of two. These Do228-212NGs, S3-VHQ with serial 314-01 (c/n 8306) and S3-VHR, serial 314-02 (c/n 8307) were delivered in May and October 2013.

BNS Khan Jahan Ali (A 515)

The ship was built by Ananda Shipyard and handed to Bangladesh Navy on 6 November 2014. The 80-metre-long tanker can sustain sea state 5 in refuelling operation in a war field, carry 2,400 tons of diesel and 120 tons of aviation fuel. It can go 24.5 km per hour with full load and can refuel two war ships simultaneously. The ship was commissioned on 6 September 2015.

Bangladesh naval warship Abu Ubaidah left Mongla Naval Jetty for Sri Lanka and Maldives on Tuesday on a training and goodwill visit.

Commander Flotilla West Commodore Abdullah Al Mamun Chowdhury was present during the departure.

A total of 248 sailors, including 27 officers, are participating in the journey under the command of Captain M Ashrafuzzaman of BNS Abu Ubaidah.

The ship will return home on January 5 after the visit.
