European NATO member who are often giving other countries new submarines design?
That is narrow them down to just German and maybe France.

Well, based on what he wrote, it's Germany then.

He said it is "new and never been existed" yet, right?

So my money is on U2, or "Achtung Baby!" Submarine.

The "not yet existed, export oriented, German made" sub is definitely U216.

I just realized that U216 actually offers Li-ion battery technology. A pleasant surprise. If we can't get the Jap's Li-ion one like Suryo/Taigei, U216 is probably the best one.

The specs from the old TKMS site (it's probably deleted now?) looks really tasty :

HDW Class 216

HDW Class 216 Submarine is a long-range multi-mission two-deck fuel cell submarine with exceptional endurance.

It features two pressure-tight compartments, high crew comfort levels and an extremely flexible payload for weapons and mission-orientated exchangeable equipment enhanced by the innovative Vertical Multi-Purpose Lock (VMPL).
  • PERMASYN® propulsion technology
  • Lithium-ion battery technology
  • Composite propeller
  • High, proven automation level
  • Compact sail
  • HABETaS® rescue system

The modular weapon and sensor mix, in combination with the submarine's air-independent features, makes the HDW Class 216 predestined for
  • Anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare
  • ISTAR - Intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance
  • Land attack capability
  • Special Forces operations
  • Deployment of unmanned vehicles
  • Mine operations and mine reconnaissance.

Technical Data

LOA~ 90 m
Pressure hull ø~ 8.1 m
Surface displ.~ 4,000 t
Weapon tubes6
Crew33

It's quite surprising if the Germans offering us this. It's an audacious plan indeed.

So what do you guys think? If it's indeed Germany's HDW/TKMS and they offer us U216 which has not been produced yet, while the SG U218 / Independence-class subs are based on it?

I don't know much about subs, actually, so I have no idea what are the advantages and disadvantages of U216 vs U218. So if someone can provide a brief overview of them, I'll be very grateful.

U218 sg (u214 xl) doesnt have li ion battery tech, but has aip, while u216 has li ion, u218 has multipurpose hatch in the front sect. Near torpedo sect. While 216 has multipurpose vertical sect behind the tower.

Good overview about u216 :

Thanks. But care to explain a bit more?

I know that AIP is one of the 'hot stuff' in conventional diesel-electric submarine technology, but how does it stand when compared to the Li-Ion batteries?

I am not an expert, but here my thought after after reading some articles, Li ion more compact battery so u could fill up more energy with the same size rather than conventional. While the advantage over aip, battery contain less mechanism, than aip. Less maintenance, and less sound maker

U216 is one big ass motherfuck*r. It's even bigger than Suryo/Taigei, nevermind U218SG :ROFLMAO:

It's 90m long (vs 84m of Suryo/Taigei, vs 70m of U218SG) with 4000 tons displacement (vs 3000-4000 tons of Suryo/Taigei, vs 2000-2200 tons of U218SG).

It has Vertical Multi-Purpose Lock (VMPL) which can be used for VLS. The U218SG is said to have this kind of option as well.

If only we could somehow buy 400km Brahmos secretly, theoretically, on paper, we could send this MF to attack Beijing :ROFLMAO:

I got strange feeling that we're gonna use Turkish MDAS VLS. They can't get Mk41 due to sanctions so they accelerate MDAS project to be ready by 2023 for their brand new Istanbul-class frigate.

MDAS VLS will launch LRSAM Hisar, LRSSM Atmaca, and LACM Gezgin.

Yes please, btw did u216 back then being offered to RAN ?

Yes, it's competing against Barracuda (non-nuke) and Suryo.

NG should go all out if they want to win. If NG offers better than non-nuclear Barracuda, then they have more chance.

Sylver on AH?
I am hoping for ESSM, SM-Series, Tomahawk combo. US give AU nuclear submarine at least they need to allow us to get these missile.
Whoaaa, how could we get that as non block

One of the main aim for AUKUS by US is to get permanent base for their nuke subs as close as possible to hot spot. But you know what, it's not just Australia they need to "embrace" for this.
