Spanish MoD acquired second-Hand Ro-Ro Vessel “Galicia” from Suardiaz shipping company at end of the last year for 7.5 million Euros and has started its modifications since then. The vessel is now ready to commission into Spanish Navy. The vessel is to replace the Spanish Navy‘s former logistic vessels El Camino Español (A-05) and Martín Posadillo (A-04) which were decommissioned in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

After the acquisition, the Ro-Ro ship “Galicia” renamed after “Reina Isabel” (A 06). It was docked in the port of Vigo, where the modification works for its new mission have been carried out.

“Reina Ysabel” (A 06) is scheduled to arrive at the Cartagena base on May 28. The commissioning ceremony of the ship will be held on June 2.

Reina Ysabel (A 06)​

Reina Ysabel was laid down on March 21, 2003, and launched on September 24 of that same year. It was constructed by Hijos de J. Barreras shipyard. It was entered service on December 16, 2014.,

Displacement: 16,361 gross tons

Lenght: 149.38 m

Width: 21 m

Draft: 5.85 m

Propulsion: 2 x Wärtsila 9L32 engines, with a power of 11,258 horsepower

Max. Speed: 15 knots.

Capacity: It can transport 110 trailers between 32 and 54 tons in weight and 251 cars or 1,404 cars on seven decks, three of them “car deck”. The folding ramp located aft measures 5.50 m in length.
