During that campaign navy tried provide air defenced with SM-1(againts Wagner's atack helicopters) and keep naval corridor intact(againts Operation Irene) thats all.
Also, the TB2 were trying to hit the concrete hangars, but heavier bombs had to be used. I think the Turks were ready to send an F16 if the second attack failed, but in the end it succeeded.

Production of STM 500 mini submarine has started

The STM500 is a platform developed to radically change the rules of the game, especially in shallow waters with plenty of islands such as the Aegean. A 500ton submarine with a Li-ion battery, capable of 18+kts speed, reaching 4500+nm and staying in the sea for 30 days, with 4 spare Akya HWT or Atmaca SSM next to 4 ready to launch Akya torpedoes, will be the main reason for enemy to shed sweat from fear.

Since these submarines can be produced in large numbers in a short time compared to the ones with relatively large displacement and their detectability is very difficult, they will be a nightmare for the enemy in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean.

I really congratulate STM. I wish success to our perfect engineers working on this project and MILDEN as well.

• Construction activities will take 48 months

How does the construction of a 550T submarine take 4 years? most of it's subsystems have already been developed?

I hope they won't wait until the sub is fully developed before they start the following builds, 4 years is too much.

Nobody did wrote about 48 months only Turan Oguz, should wait for officially statement about the time line of the project.

Indeed. My guess is that there will be a very intense demand from brother Turk states neighboring Caspian Sea to counter Iranian threat. At the same time, it will be a platform for states that cannot afford large-scale submarines or naval fleets would also like to have.

Previously, STM had signed a contract with Pakistan for development of a midget submarine. Presumably, Pakistan will be eager to replace their obsolete small submarines with STM500.

Apart from this, a small 33m submarine (STM500-42m) named LSUB-33, which is lighter than the STM500, was designed by the Dearsan shipyard. The LSUB33 has a speed of 10kts and a diving depth of 150m. This submarine can also be evaluated by the TN or export markets.

The STM500 midget submarines will play an important role in the Aegean. I will outline the reasons for this below;

- Anti-submarine warfare is very difficult in coastal waters like the Aegean. The water conditions (temperature, salinity, and pressure) favor the submarines, which are very difficult to detect even in the deep sea. Underwater noise in coastal waters is very loud compared to the open seas, and this noise affects the performance of sonars, especially hull-mounted sonars.

- Given the smaller size of STM500, the acoustic and magnetic signature will be quite smaller compared to Preveze and Gur class.

- As a result, the midget submarines will be able to penetrate the enemy A2/ AD zone without being detected. After penetration, they will be able to engage enemy units with torpedoes or missiles (noting that mini-submarines are heavily armed for their size) or use special forces to conduct operations (sabotage, attacks, critical reconnaissance, illuminating targets with lasers for long-range engagements, target reporting, battle damage assessment, etc.) and gather information on enemy unit positions or other matters.

- On the other hand, the large number of these submarines will cause some difficulties in command and control. The biggest disadvantage of submarines is communication problems. Therefore, the submarines' missions are planned in great detail before they are deployed, and although they remain at sea for a month, the deployment order contains details such as movements, courses, communication windows, etc., on an hourly basis. These are announced to NATO allies with a SUBNOTE (Submarine Notice) message to avoid interference. The slightest disruption in these activities, such as a short delay in the communications window, immediately suggests a casualty, and the Navy raises the alert for search and rescue operations. Having so many submarines is a good capability, but command and control problems are the other cases.

STM500 also has great export potential, especially in Southeast Asian countries. After launching the first submarine, I believe that we will see new orders...

i hope these STM500 subs will house some kind of munition to knock out the air bases in the islands. some kind of runway destroyer, maybe?
