I beg to differ. The US is not in a declining position. Actually, America was never as powerful as today in terms of power projection and military. Though, it's unfortunate for them but other nations are catching up rather quickly.

I'd be the first guy to support this plan but bear in mind that the entire Western world would see it as an unprecedented act of betrayal by a NATO member state. I doubt that the AKP government could handle the political fallout given our current state of affairs.
