Following Afghanistan Defeat: Can EU Win Own ‘Independence’ from the US?

No. The EU is weak and will break apart soon. The entire thing was set up to soak up German power, now the Germans are less of a threat. The Polish/Italians/French will look to leave it.

Britain has lost its strategic depth.

In terms of new allies and setting old issues, what did you have in mind? For the UK we had a manufacturing hub in the ports of Glasgow, Belfast, Newcastle, as well as inland areas like Sheffield and Birmingham. That was based on trade within a global Empire. Now manufacturing is more high...

Britain has lost its strategic depth.

The sexual revolution was a product of the west coming to the end of its demographic cycle and the American free trade system protecting the west. So if you are safe and protected, you have start doing stuff you couldn't do before, plus you are at the peak of a demographic cycle. So basically...

Another interesting thing is Northn Thanks for the comment. I will reply more later. What do you think of the North-South strategy I mention later in the thread? It isn't a compete strategy, however in geo-political terms it gives us our own sphere and access to resources.

Yeah I know. IVF treatment is much better now, so woman can have children later. However it does nothing for birthrates because it is so expensive. Basically get married at 18 and have as many children as you can. The rest will sort itself out. I am also 28.

I am of Anglo-Norman heritage, I have a grandmother who was half-Irish, my mother is Anglo-Irish. I would never call myself Celtic, but I guess I am a bit Celtic. However mainly English/Norman. The difference is you are just coming to the end of a normal generational/demographic cycle, you...

This chart shows it better. https://www.statista.com/statistics/281981/live-births-in-the-united-kingdom-uk/ This one shows abortion numbers. https://www.johnstonsarchive.net/policy/abortion/ab-unitedkingdom.html

When Britain enforced abortion, our birthrates, imploded. So that put an end to that. So it isn't that we 'stopped coming' its that we stopped being allowed to be born. Millions of British people would move to Australia, my grandmother moved to Australia before moving to Ireland. So it isn't the...

Britain has lost its strategic depth.

Here is the military I would for want for the 'North-South' strategy. This is possible for Britain to achieve. The CANZUK/East of Suez strategy isn't possible at all. 2 QE class carriers. 8 Type 45 destroyers. 16 ASW frigates. 12 SSN. 10 Fleet Replenishment ships. 15 minesweepers. 12...

Britain has lost its strategic depth.

Yet somehow we have kept to pointless bases on Cyprus and the Falklands, economically not viable places. Economically the only viable places for Britain were where we had settlers. So Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Ireland. However we gave all those places independence. We...

    Bucking The Allied Frigate Trend

Fascinating comment. When I put down an 'ideal' Canadian navy, I thought about a Littoral frigate, to support the operations of the blue water frigates. I don't think the Canadians have the money, but it would be a solution for them, to bridge the cap between the blue water and patrol ships...

    Bucking The Allied Frigate Trend

It seems to be because they don't need convoy escort frigates anymore. So they put money into bigger war fighting frigates. Japan has the second best navy in the world, and they already have those big war fighting ships, so they are building 22 convoy escort ships.

Britain has lost its strategic depth.

I think its institutional shock and total loss of confidence. Basically we have been defeated and manipulated so much by the Americans, by the EU, that its basically just okay whatever you want at this point. The British people are like no screw that we are still a major power and won't accept...

Britain has lost its strategic depth.

I don't even know why we did the Falklands war, to be honest. I guess it was the only time we were directly attacked/invaded by a foreign state. However anything short of that, we just do nothing and allow it to happen. Even the Falklands war happened because we were cutting military spending...

Britain has lost its strategic depth.

The Suez thing was a totally mess, as WW2 was a totally mess. The British just gave up after that. Hahaha. Also we would go to war alone, if it was a navy war. We left the land-fighting to other powers. And then the Americans did the same to us. Allow us to fight WW1 and WW2, then coming in with...

Britain has lost its strategic depth.

We gave up, the operation started costing more than we were getting from the Fishing boats. So we scrapped it, retreat. Then Iceland was like okay we can push them again, and each time we back down. The British like to blame the Americans, when its our own fault.

Britain has lost its strategic depth.

The commonwealth is just a meeting of different politicians, it doesn't exist in geo-political terms. There is CANZUK, but that is dependent on a navy to enforce it and protect trade. Which Britain doesn't have. London was the world financial center, when we had a massive Empire, a powerful...
