MoD recently formed the AFSOD on the lines of USSOCOM. It will include the best operatives from Para SF, Marcos and Garuds recruited through a further rigorous selection process with the total number expected to range around 1500 operators

Green Berets assigned to 2nd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), conducted a joint training exercise with Indian Para SF in Vajra Prahar 2018

If there is any Indian unit who transitioned into a world class Special Forces unit, it is the NSG

They went from this in 2008 (pic taken during 26/11). The woodland camo guy is a Marcos operator

To this is 2018. Reportedly, the training and selection procedures have also drastically changed over the course of time with NSG establishing 5 major hubs across India for faster deployment. Since they're under MHA and not any armed forces division, they have access to procurement of any weapons system without undergoing a tender process

CRPF seems to have different groups doing special tasks in different areas, they have COBRA commandos and this QAT operatives

Cobra units are specifically tasked for Naxal ops, you don't see em deployed elsewhere while QAT are more like CRPF's SWAT units. The QAT had great training but their gear was crap until Pulwama...It's quite obvious our planners have always been reactive and not proactive

Our planners are pretty proactive when it comes to their own security ... example SPG
