He's been sentenced back in 2005, but Australia decides to punish him again as he nearly finishes his time. I assume they want to use the new laws to punish him retrospect.

"hey you got a ticket for speeding 15 years ago, we'll have to jail you for 5 years because the laws have changed and we can punish people retrospect, even if you paid the fine".

Drawing a parallel between getting a speeding ticket and a guy plotting terror acts to kill civilians.....

Exaggeration helps understand the legal hurdle.

Turkey talks PKK terrorists into surrendering, and those who've been tricked into joining PKK and surrender are "integrated" back to society.

There are instances where it's not possible, but that's a security issue to be dealt with.

It's wrong to punish someone again, who has already served or are serving time, unless there are new crimes committed.

According to Australian Intelligence this guy has shown no remorse for his actions nor has he abandoned his dangerous ideology. Australia is better off deporting him.

source ?

No such thing is mentioned in the article. and you'd need a psychologist to evaluate the prisoner.

Some of his associates were released due to lack of legal means to restrain them but prison authorities are fully convinced that their views haven't changed

In short that article says if they do not change their POV (freedom of thought) they're dangerous. Also it's dangerous to separate them from society.

IMO unfair treatment doesn't help either.

Did you watch the "Minority Report" pretty good movie and if you can be objective you'll see that our world is slowly becoming what's shown in that movie.

Didn't the Aussies admit to war crimes in Afghanistan only a few days ago? What punishment was handed out to those war criminals, may I ask?

I don't see anything wrong with keeping terrorists in jail. They pose an ongoing threat to public security.

Are you a Hindu by any chance?

I know quite a few of your countrymen. Most of them belong to the majority community. None of them can reconcile their views with yours.

Did the person in question commit acts of terror?

If not, you can not call him a terrorist.

You should mention the war crimes committed by Australian troops in Afghanistan. Were those criminals punished?

Imprisoned?

Was Australia sanctioned for acts of terror as a state policy in Afghanistan?

Acts of terrorism committed in the name of Australia?

Points worth pondering over.

So if someone wants to commit acts of terrorism but he's stopped by authorities he can't be a terrorist because he failed to actually kill people? Lol

You are trying to be facetious.

The "lol" is a definitive indicator.

If you want to become the world's richest person, and if Jeff Bezos or some Saudi king gets to become the richest person in the world, then yes, you are not the world's richest person.

No number of "lol"s will or can change that.

I hope you are not implying that you, or anybody else, who merely wanted to be the world's richest person is, by default, the world's richest person.

I see...your ideea of justice is to punish criminals who commited the actual crime and not the ones who plot to commit one.

Isn't that why you conduct operations right before they get to the tools they plan to use, or while they're getting ready.

Notice I am not saying preparations because that is a very loose definition as talking could be considered preparations.

You never mentioned the punishments meted out to Australian war criminals for their crimes in Afghanistan.

For every case of crimes that they admitted to, there are a number of other cases that went unreported.

Your idea is to ignore or brush them under the carpet in the hope that people will forget them. Or maybe due to centuries of Euro-centric world order, Western crimes whether war crimes or any other, will be treated with velvet gloves.

Do not be flippant.

Ad hominems should not be tolerated. Do not try to put words into anyone's mouth.

It is clear to see that a single non-incident in Australia is given far greater attention than it deserves than hundreds, or even thousands, of much more severe incidents in Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and the rest of the region.

Those people or countries that adhere to, or uphold, double standards can not expect justice when tragedy strikes them.

You're going off topic as alleged Australian war crimes in Afghanistan have nothing to do with an islamist radical convicted for terrorism.

Since Salafists believe that all "man-made laws" are haram, then they cannot complain if their citizenship by these "kuffar regimes" following "man-made laws" strips them of citizenship and sends them to the "Daulah" where Shariah law is followed.

Anyone sticking up for these Salafist losers should remember that these shits would cut their throats in an instant if they ever had the chance, as they have done so many times in Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc.

They are interconnected.

No radical Australian 'terrorist' from ADF has been charged.

No Australian 'terrorist' official has been sanctioned and/or arrested before undergoing a trial in an international court of justice.

The country of Australia, or USA, or any of the other numerous countries involved in innumerable crimes in Afghanistan (or Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Palestine and elsewhere) too have not been sanctioned, embargoed and/or isolated.

As such, a non-incident in Australia simply does not deserve more attention than actual crimes perpetrated by the numerous partner in crimes of Australia.

Your opinion of what deserves more attention is irelevant, it's up to Australian authorities to decide how they ll protect their citizens from terrorists.
