Mr Ismail Demir: The negotiations are in final period. We will take a foreign 1500hp engine soon and start trials with Altay.
The development of national turbodiesel engines are continuing. We will introduce a development roadway for all of them.

They will have to test these engines for a long period of time in all seasons, all terrains, etc..

Looking forward to hearing the 1500hp engine roar, few more years refining and we have not only a land engine but a potential marine engine!

According to Russian wikipedia, The Chinese type 99 tank uses MB 871 Ka-501 which is dubious information.
However Thai Military and Asian Region figures it out : the turbocharged 1,500 hp diesel derived from the German MB871ka501. So that how much is it possible if ALTAY could have the Chinese engine?

The engine of the Type 99 tank finally jumped out of the “old 150” that was developed from the Soviet V2 series diesel engine. By introducing a series of military and civilian models from Germany MTU, we have finally made great progress in the manufacturing process and technical level of the engine. The new engine has a cylinder bore of 150 and is called a 150HB engine. It is a V-type 12-cylinder 60-degree angled twin-turbocharged intercooled engine with a rated speed of 2,200 rpm, a maximum speed of 2,450 rpm, and an advanced computer-controlled high pressure. Rail EFI technology is more efficient and environmentally friendly. The maximum power of the Type 99 is 1200 hp (883 KW. In all fairness, the 99-type 1200 hp engine is a bit smaller than the 1500 hp in the West, but since Western tanks are mostly over 60 tons, China’s 99 is only 50 tons. The gap is not very big, the main gap is still on the transmission; however, with the continuous improvement of the 99 type, especially the protection of the above, 99 is gradually moving closer to the 55-ton level, and the 1200-horsepower engine is also unable to control The tank was further upgraded. For this reason, the researchers strengthened the turbocharger based on the original 150HB-1200 engine, which achieved a power of 1500 hp (1103 kW), a maximum output torque of 5500 NM, and a more compact structure. The world’s advanced level.

According to Army Recognition the Engine is from South Korea

> Doosan Infracore DV27K, 4-cycle, 12-cylinder water-cooled diesel engine developing 1,500 hp.

But i would take the claim with a grain of salt because the transmission isn't mentioned at all, very likely we are talking about the S&T Dynamics Transmission which wasn't chosen by the Korean Army because it wasn't on par with Renk´s Transmission

Beggars can't be choosers. In the meantime they have the time to improve the transmission so it last just as long as the Renks' one.

Either way, these (Doosan and BMC) modern V12 tank diesel engines are all inspired by the Europowerpack.

"According to the last year announcement, this engine will be the South Korean Doosan Infracore DV27K, 4-cycle, 12-cylinder water-cooled diesel engine developing 1,500 hp."

Old news buddy. Nothing new. Nobody should get excited.

And he quotes an anonymous source.
"According to a source with knowledge of the Altay program,"

I seriously doubt that any official with knowledge would talk to him after his years of shit talking.

And again...

I know Bekdil is not reliable but here he claims to have spoken to a BMC senior official.

-BMC has reached an agreement with two South Korean companies for work on the power pack of the future indigenous Altay tank

-The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the company signed deals with Doosan and S&T Dynamics to supply the engine and transmission mechanism for the Altay.

-In order to bypass German export license restrictions, the South Korean companies will “de-Germanize” some German components in the power pack, sources familiar with the Altay program have said.

-Under the latest deals, the South Koran companies will supply the power pack and assist with its integration into the Altay. A test phase will follow, and if all goes well, the Altays may be powered by Doosan and S&T Dynamics within 18 months, the BMC official said. BMC expects to ink more definitive versions of the two deals within a couple of months.

Some will complain about the author, but the rumours have been there for a while and the details are too much to just pull out of your arse. Whatever it is, or it will be, let's finally save the project even if it's in BMCs hands.

BMC is working with fiat, italian firm not with sk company to develop the indigenous powerpack, so i don't know where he got the south koreans from since batu has been in development since 2018.

Edit:

Also koreans transmission was a failure , even if we get their engine we still have to get another transmission mechanicsm adding even more trouble, altay will be mass produced with batu engine or it won't be produced at all.

The earliest we can mass produce altay is probably 2024-2025.

Doesn't make much sense considering how far along in development BMC's engine is.

Are we talking about the very engine that the South Korean Army declined due to performance issues? Isn't this the reason why South Koreans are using German engines instead of homegrown versions? I'm confused.

Their engines worked but their transmission failed so they went for a mix for their own engine and German transmission. That's why i am confused is well, there is no way we get those transmissions in the first place so this looks like a lost deal is well. Unless magically the Korean transmission started working(maybe they went hybrid) in that case we can use Korean power pack.
