The Greek Army and the General Staff of the Army are examining something beyond the "classic" Excess Defense Articles (EDA), the second-hand systems released by the US Armed Forces. For example, the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior reconnaissance helicopters, as well as the 1200 M1117 ASV Guardian, are material that has been or will be available in Greece through EDA. The needs of the Greek Army cannot be met by the EDA, so there has been a mobilization in material that has not yet reached the EDA lists, but in materials that the US Armed Forces intend to withdraw in the near future. In this way Greece tries to obtain better weapons systems and even in a fraction of their purchase price. As the new JLTVs enter service, the US is withdrawing the relatively new MRAP Cougar, a very interesting 4x4 and 6x6 vehicle. The United States has several thousand vehicles of this type in service, most of which have taken part in many operations. The Cougar could cover the needs of the Greek Army that a wheeled transport vehicle of MRAP category personnel needs very quickly and at a low cost. Of course, their weight is not small as it exceeds 14.5 tons, as a result of which it has several difficulties in moving on soft soil with mud such as Evros. The other system that the Greek Army is examining is the well-known Assault Amphibious Vehicle. As part of the restructuring of its forces, the USA will release several Mk19 40 mm bombers which are the main armament not only of the Assault Amphibious Vehicle but also of the M1117 ASV Guardian that will be received by the Greek Army.
