US-based Avon Rubber company announced last week that it has received a sole-source contract valued at up to $93 million to further develop and supply the US Army’s Next-Generation Integrated Head Protection System (IHPS). The contract will go into effect following the current low-rate initial IHPS production contract, which expires in 2021.
“This contract award demonstrates our ongoing focus on technological excellence and commitment to developing the next generation of life-critical personal protection systems," said CEO Paul McDonald. "This further strengthens our medium-term outlook and represents further momentum in our leading ballistic helmet portfolio.”
The Monch website noted that Avon recently announced that it will buy US-based Team Wendy in a $130 million deal. After integrating the Cleveland, OH, family-owned supplier of helmets, liners and retention systems with Avon's existing helmets and armour business, the company aims to become a global leader in military and first responder markets with “a broader product portfolio and stronger capabilities and routes to market,” the report said.
