Turkey is eager to sell defence equipment to Bangladesh and double the bilateral trade to $2.0 billion, visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt ÇavuÅŸoÄŸlu has said.
He said he highlighted the benefits of purchasing Turkish arms in a meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart AK Abdul Momen at state guesthouse Padma in the capital on Wednesday, reports bdnews24.com.
He hoped that Bangladesh would agree to take the benefits as Turkey is offering competitive prices without any prerequisite.
Turkey is investing much in defence production jointly and through technology transfer, he said, adding the country now uses 70 per cent of its own defence products.
The Turkish foreign minister said they are eager to share the technology with Bangladesh as well.
ÇavuÅŸoÄŸlu said Turkey was happy that their trade with Bangladesh has not decreased during the pandemic.
He later paid a call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Ganabhaban.
He will also inaugurate a new building of the Turkish Embassy. Momen had inaugurated a new building of the Bangladesh Embassy in Turkey in September.

A top-level visit from Turkey to Bangladesh expected in the coming months could unravel a wide range of opportunities in bilateral relations, particularly in trade, investments and mutual understanding, Bangladesh Ambassador in Ankara Mosud Mannan said Thursday.
Mannan said in an exclusive interview with Anadolu Agency (AA) that he has been working to materialize the visit soon.
He reiterated that top diplomats of both countries have already announced that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan may travel to Dhaka in March if the COVID-19 situation remains under control, which Mannan says will be enormously significant.
“It will open up many more opportunities to tap potential yet untapped in the coming years and build political understanding and business,” he said.
Explaining preparations for the high-level visit as well as its significance for Ankara and Dhaka, the envoy expressed optimism to double the current bilateral trade volume worth $1 billion (TL 7 billion) within the next two to three years.
He said the strong desire from top politicians and businesspeople of both countries will help to achieve this goal.
The Bangladeshi diplomat said the desired bilateral trade volume “is not an impossible figure to reach, since even during COVID-19 time,” the two countries had trade worth almost $1 billion.
“We are expecting more investment to come to Bangladesh from Turkey,” he added, reiterating that it had already started with Turkish conglomerate Koç Group a few years back.
For further cooperation, a new agreement between Turkey's Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) and Bangladesh's Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) was also signed on Feb. 3, 2021. FBCCI is the largest body representing all the chambers of commerce and industries in Bangladesh.
Saying that “defense cooperation between the two countries has been growing,” Mannan said the two countries “will tap into unexplored potentials.”
“Bangladesh appreciates Turkey's development in the field of defense. Over the years, we have been importing different items from Turkey. You (Turkey) are doing very well when you talk about the manufacturing of drones, the quality of the drone manufactured by Turkey is world-class. So, we can consider in the future of having modern equipment as per need of our defense forces,” he said.
Training is also among the opportunities that Turkey has to offer and the South Asian country’s “Army, Navy and Air Force members would benefit” from it, according to Mannan.
Mannan further emphasized that when we talk about defense cooperation it is very important to receive help when needed. He recalled that when a Bangladeshi naval ship was damaged during the Beirut blast last year at the port they “got immediate help from the Turkish government to repair it and then sent it back to Bangladesh.”
“It was indeed a great assistance extended by Turkey to Bangladesh,” he said.
Mannan added that Ankara and Dhaka “may also discuss all the subjects related to aviation, naval or marine science along with molecular biology, space science, at the appropriate time at the highest level.”
Meanwhile, in the construction sector, the Bangladeshi diplomat said there is ample opportunity in Bangladesh for Turkish builders for the construction of roads, highways or bridges.
About tourism, Mannan said, Bangladesh, as the country with the world's longest sea beach and the largest mangrove forest, must learn from Turkey, which is an expert in the sector.

The company signed an agreement with Turkish IT company VPNTime Technology, who will be solely responsible for the distribution of REVE Antivirus in the Turkish market, said a press release.
The REVE Antivirus products that will be available in Turkey are REVE Antivirus, REVE Internet Security, REVE Total Security, and REVE Mobile Security.

Relations between Bangladesh and Turkey have reached a new high, with the two countries particularly stepping up defense exchanges.
Bangladesh has become the fourth-largest arms buyer from Turkey, reportedly receiving up to $60 million worth of weapons out of Turkey’s roughly $1 billion in defense products exports in the first four months of 2021.
Turkey appears to be fostering closer relations with Bangladesh through its Asia Anew initiative, turning its attention to countries including Bangladesh, a country with a $4.45 billion military budget allocation for the fiscal year 2021-22.
Roketsan, a major Turkish weapons manufacturer and defense contractor, delivered the first batch of the TRG-300 Kaplan missile system with a range of 300 kilometers (186 miles) to Bangladesh in June, according to reports from Defense Technology of Bangladesh-DTB.
Meanwhile, 41 members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces participated in a training in Turkey on the Tiger MLRS (c) delivered by Ankara and returned in the first week of June this year, according to the Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, and other official sources.
Bangladesh diversifying its defense equipment
Bangladesh Ordnance Factories (BOF), the defense hardware manufacturer for the Bangladesh Armed Forces, has taken up a project to manufacture air defense and anti-tank missiles for the first time to strengthen its capacity and meet Forces Goal 2030, according to the Bangladesh Defense Analyst website, which is owned and published by Defseca, the country’s largest military, security and intelligence portal.
Work on the initiative started in 2016 with help from China but did not make headway until 2021, when defense and international experts observed other countries can now join and help resume the initiative.
Defense expert and security analyst Brig. Gen. (retired) M. Sakhawat Hossain told Anadolu Agency that Turkey has offered to sell defense equipment to Bangladesh and the government is considering fresh procurements from Turkey, including missiles and plans for producing a joint venture aircraft.
Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu during a visit to Bangladesh expressed Ankara's keenness to enhance defense cooperation with Dhaka and engage in “joint production and technology transfer.”
“Bangladesh is surely discussing and considering the Turkish foreign minister’s proposal for defense procurement, but those are internal issues and cannot come into the public domain until an agreement is signed,” said Hossain.
Shahab Enam Khan, a professor of international relations at Jahangirnagar University, told Anadolu Agency that Turkey and Bangladesh are “natural friends” and that they should have strategic relations.
“Modernization of the Turkish Armed Forces and defense industries certainly deserves attention, which can be beneficial for Bangladeshi armed forces’ modernization plan because it seeks to diversify defense capability,” he noted.
“We must remember that the ‘great power game’ is also unfolding in the country’s neighborhood and the defense relationship between Bangladesh and Turkey will certainly help maintain greater peace and stability in this region,” said Khan.
Bangladesh’s economic growth is attracting increasing interest from countries such as Turkey, which is looking to sell products and invest in the country while also strengthening bilateral ties.
“Bangladesh’s economic growth is the most sustainable and stable in the region, which has significantly increased the geopolitical importance over the past decade,” he said.
The country also wants the stable Middle East, which is a shared interest between the two countries, as remittances, Bangladesh's second-largest source of foreign reserves, largely originate from there, according to these analysts.
Cooperation between armed forces
On June 16, the Bangladesh Navy awarded the country’s state-owned defense contractor Khulna Shipyard a contract to build three diving support boats for its operational needs based on a modern Turkish design, according to Defseca.
In addition, Bangladesh Chief of Naval Staff Adm. M. Shaheen Iqbal led a delegation to Turkey from May 27 to June 4 this year, while days before his retirement, then-Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat led a visit from April 19 to April 25, in response to invitations from his Turkish counterpart.
During meetings with Turkey’s air and navy forces’ officials and Defense Industry President Ismail Demir, matters such as training between the two countries, shipbuilding, and enhancing mutual cooperation in cybersecurity were discussed, according to the director of the ISPR.
ISPR Director Lt. Col. Abdullah Ibn Zaid noted that the visit is expected to play a vital role in strengthening their cordial relationship by broadening the scope of mutual cooperation in professional sectors.
Sikder Bodiruzzaman, director general of Foreign Ministry's Eastern Europe and CIS sub-division, mentioned Turkish support in repairing a Bangladeshi naval ship damaged in a blast in Beirut, Lebanon, in August last year as an example of strengthening defense ties.
He told Anadolu Agency that trade and defense relationships have grown stronger and more frequent.
A delegation from Bangladesh is scheduled to visit Turkey next month with the goal of enhancing ties and overall trade relations between the two countries to $2 billion from the current level of around $1 billion.

I am hopeful we can reach a deal for Hisar Air defense system and T-129 (Both army and BAF need attack helicopters). I think BA wold be intereseted in Khan TBM and Navy would be closely monitoring developments with ATMACA missile. All the best !

We must connect our industries and the capabilities of our brother states must increase together. Joint projects and technology transfer are the main methods of achieving this goal. Hisar AD family and Hakim Command control network will be a game changer in many aspects. As far as I know, Bangladesh is negotiating for Hisar-O+.
O+ will join into inventory in this year and I expect to see a good news from Bangladesh when Hisar-O+ passed in serial production. All the best !

It’s not just Turkey’s political or material support for the Rohingya. Turkish first lady as the first foreign dignitary visited the Rohingyas after August 2017 military crackdown in Myanmar’s Rakhine State. It was a big gesture on their part to help mobilize international support for the persecuted people.
But more important is the high level visits in recent times. Turkish Foreign Minister [Mevlut Cavusoglu] visited Bangladesh amid the pandemic and we also visited Turkey to inaugurate our newly built chancellor’s complex in Ankara.
There is increasing interest in Turkey to take part in big development projects in Bangladesh. Turkey is very good at construction. They are interested in investing in the healthcare sector of Bangladesh. They are planning to build a big hospital in Bangladesh.
These are all commercial investments but I am sure that two governments are interested in facilitating more of such interactions.

Foreign Secretary Masud bin Momen: The existing relationship between Turkey and Bangladesh is excellent. It is on a very positive trajectory. It’s not just Turkey’s political or material support for the Rohingya. Turkish first lady as the first foreign dignitary visited the Rohingyas after August 2017 military crackdown in Myanmar’s Rakhine State. It was a big gesture on their part to help mobilize international support for the persecuted people.
But more important is the high level visits in recent times. Turkish Foreign Minister [Mevlut Cavusoglu] visited Bangladesh amid the pandemic and we also visited Turkey to inaugurate our newly built chancellor’s complex in Ankara.
There is increasing interest in Turkey to take part in big development projects in Bangladesh. Turkey is very good at construction. They are interested in investing in the healthcare sector of Bangladesh. They are planning to build a big hospital in Bangladesh.
These are all commercial investments but I am sure that two governments are interested in facilitating more of such interactions.

The two countries also cooperate in terms of their defense industries and have already carried out training programs and joint collaborations. Thanks for your kind words bro. Anything is possible in defence trades. Turkey is integrating CAMM-Er missiles to Genesis Advent combat management system for Pakistani Milgem corvettes. It won't be a problem to integrate SOM missiles to Typoons if Europe allows it.
