There is a total curfew in place at the moment given the protests and riots that have escalated.

The BD govt has basically shut off all comms inside and to outside world, including the internet.

So it will take some time for our forum friends in BD to get access to our forum again.

Most of my real life BD friends in Canada are unable to get in touch with their families back home etc.... last a number of them heard was the army was closing in and arresting a whole lot of ppl/organisers/leaders etc they deemed at the top of things.

The BD supreme court has pared back a lot of what set off the current atmosphere (when last month a high court gave the quota ruling)...but the student leaders are making some more new demands (govt ministers to resign etc) given the over-reaction they say of police and govt etc.

It might take some time basically before we see our BD posters back in forum given blackwall of comms right now enforced.

Looks like BD is a real dictatorship, ridiculous action by the government.

Yes, they deployed troops. Police got overwhelmed initially. Army is still in the Capital. It wouldn't probably be wise to talk about specifics in a public forum right now. Maybe when things cools down more in a month or so. But I will say this, it was unprecedented. This government faced many protests in last 18 years but never placed a curfew. And total shut down of all comms for 5 days is also something that never happened before.

Yes, Supreme court scraped the previous rulling by High Court. Previously 56% government job qouta was reserved for specific groups. Among that, Staggering 30% was reserved for freedom fighters and their close relative.

Only problem was, actual freedom fighters and their close relatives percentage is no more than 1 realistically. So, it was systemically problematic from the very beginning. I don't have to explain to you how such massive qouta can be exploited by powerful fractions in a third world country.

Now according to the new ruling by Supreme court, 93% job will be allocated based on merit. 5% qouta is for the freedom fighters and their relatives and 1% for ethnic minority and 1% for people with disabilities.

Glad to hear you are OK. Hopefully soon you are able to get over to mother's place.

My thoughts and prayers are with the BD people in these testing times.

I was getting constant update from my BD buddy network in Canada/US, so yeah I have to large degree some measure of number of details that transpired, that will take long time to get through right now.

So like you said we will see how it all settles down and discussion arises about it.....given scale of what happened and the clear perceived threat BD Govt/regime senses from it.

Yes we cannot share too much on public fora for sure.

Take care.

Thanks God everything is fine with you. Let's hope the situation gets chill enough so you and your mother can be reunited as soon as possible.

Hola amigos!! Finally managed to log-in!! Net connection is still poor. My area was literally a warzone!! Pepole died in clash!! Helicopter was often flying low over my area. Army's chopper threw flashlight on my cousin & his friends while they were on the roof at night.

We were attacked multiple times by govt thugs from multiple sides during our protest on 18th July in Kakrail-Bailey Road but we managed to thwart them. Police were there but didn't even bother to help us.

4G was shutdown so we didn't know what was going on in Rampura. My friend in that area said an apartment caretaker was injured by police & a bakery boy was killed by BGB though they weren't part of the protest/riot. I almost got shot by battalion ansar.

The best parts I experienced were mother blessing her son, father bringing her daughter to join the protest. People were briginging us water & food. We were resting near Bailey Dali & a mother with her little boy offered us food but we politely refused, she still bought us samuchas.

Hasina is OFFICIALLY a facist biatch. We literally forced her to show her true self this time. She & her BAL cronies was shaken to the core this time. No other parties could do what our beloved students achieved two times with Road Safety & Quota Movement during her rule. ✊

Few days ago in my cousin's area police grabbed whoever they could cause they were outside during curfew & a huzoor was arrested in my area for posting negative things on FB about the government.
