The Brazilian Navy has received the first 6 of 90 Unimog U5000 ordered from Daimler AG. They will be delivered to their user, the Integrated Command and Control System of the Brazilian Navy (Sistema Integrado de Comando y Control de la Marina de Brasil, Sic2MB).

On November 24, 2020, the Brazilian Navy (Marinha do Brasil) formally purchased 90 UNIMOG 5000 4×4 military trucks from the German company Daimler AG, including troops and material transport vehicles, water and fuel tanks, refrigerators and tippers. They would be delivered to its Marine Corps (Corpo de Fuzileiros Navais, CFN) from 2021 to 2027. In fact, these vehicles are part of the platforms for the exploitation of electronic warfare (EG) and command and control (C2) activities developed by the Force.

The acquisition of the Unimog U5000s, as well as the Sic2MB, is part of Proadsumus, a strategic program of the Brasilian Navy aimed at guaranteeing the expeditionary capacity of the CFN, restoring and expanding the capabilities of the Amphibious Brigade, located in the Força de Fuzileiros da Esquadra, as well as the Fluvial Operations Battalions, the Grupamentos de Fuzileiros Navais and the Nuclear, Biological, Chemical and Radiological Defense Battalions of the Navy.

The vehicles are manufactured at Mercedes-Benz’s Worth-Am-Rhine truck plant in the Rhineland-Palatinate. The Sic2MB programme, of which the UNIMOG 5000 deliveries are but a part, envisions future deliveries of heavy machine guns, anti-armour weaponry, all-terrain vehicles, anti-aircraft systems, logistics vehicles and command & control platforms. The programme is to be active from 2020 to 2041. The delivery of the UNIMOG U5000s has just started and should be complete in 2027. That acquisition programme came after the signature of a similar deal to buy 12 Oshkosh Defense JLTVs for the same project.
