The Royal Navy of Great Britain will transfer to Ukraine two Sandown class mine action ships - Blyth and Ramsey. This is reported on the website of the fleet on Wednesday, August 4.
"Sandown class mine defense ships have traveled a long journey of 175,000 miles in 21 years for Ramsey, and 185,000 miles in 20 years for Blyth, supporting operations in the Middle East, around the UK or performing NATO duties in Northern European waters and Mediterranean Sea, "- said in the message.
The farewell ceremony for the ships took place at the Clyde naval base in Scotland. The flags of the Royal Navy were lowered from them.
“It's time to say goodbye to a ship that was both home and a way of life for many,” said Ramsey's last commander, Lieutenant Commander Joel Roberts.
These ships are said to be replaced by Project Wilton's expanding initiative to introduce autonomous / unmanned boats and mining systems.
"Blyth and Ramsey will enjoy a new life in the Black Sea. After the completion of the repair work, both vessels will be transferred to the Ukrainian Navy," the British Navy said.

Earlier, the media reported that Ukraine will buy two warships from Britain. The British authorities will hand over to the Ukrainian Navy two of the nine Sandown-class minesweepers that London has.
It is known that minesweepers are 53 meters long and reach speeds of up to 13 knots (about 24 kilometers per hour). The ships are armed with a 30mm Mark44 Bushmaster II cannon, three six-barreled 7.62mm Minigun machine guns and a pair of general-purpose machine guns.
Also, the ships are equipped with radars and mine search systems, including a powerful sonar. However, ships can still be upgraded with more modern mine detection systems.
