Bulgarian soldier found dead at EUFOR base in Sarajevo​

A member of Bulgarian military contingent within the EUFOR Althea mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, was found dead on Friday at the Butmir base, the Bulgarian Ministry of Defence confirmed.


According to the statement, the medical team that arrived at the scene of accident declared the death of the soldier.

Reportedly the soldier succumbed to a gunshot wound.

The case was reported to the Military Police, which took measures and launched an investigation.

The Bulgarian ministry said the body of the officer will be transported to Bulgaria on the plane of the country's Air Force.

Operation Althea is the European Union's military deployment in Bosnia and Herzegovina, overseeing the military implementation of peace process in the country after the 1992-95 armed conflict.
