What I am proposing seems to be exactly what Canada and the Arctic need to reshape our Arctic & NATO Security (as part of our new draft National Security (NS) and our True North Strong Defence (TNSD) Policies) IOT be an effective Northern Global Partner with our Northern NATO allies/partners now and in the future. A NATO SNMG-A (Arctic)/Second Fleet Command Group structure especially, would be a valuable asset to both our own NSP/TNSD to bolster NATOs Northern flank. I would however place overall Command & Control under Canada’s new Joint Task Force Command structure for the first and possibly second rounds and then rotate Command through Second Fleet along with other Northern Arctic NATO Command partners on a rotational basis. Iqaluit would be a perfect location to place this Arctic Command structure at. I would place a much higher importance to this Command at Iqaluit and build upon it. Make this a major NATO/Joint Task Force Arctic Base along with a strong Air Force and Canadian Army Arctic contingent (possibly several NATO Air Squadrons and up to an Army Brigade and/or Divisional NATO ground support troops. I do believe that any Arctic Command should have a strong Naval presence including at least one ARG Group along with enough “space” to accommodate RCDs/AOPS/Canadian/NATO Submarines and NATO fuel stations along with Second Fleet/NATO Task Groups at one port facility point. All of what we need, will not be cheap, however, it is a urgent requirement for Canada, NORAD & NATO. A monumental task for this Country, however with US/NATO commitments ($$), this vision will be realistic.
