Ukraine has a month or two to prepare, not saying that it can stands an all out Russian assault, but if defense are done properly Ukraine prolly could buy time until NATO would do something about it.

Although personally I don't think NATO would do anything. Hard to see NATO going to save Ukraine's ass when it's leader, the US, are preoccupied with China.
But if the US would abandon Ukraine, it would prolly emboldened China's own design for Taiwan.

So maybe the US intervene by parking a carrier strike group in the black sea so that it could send a message to its Pacific rival that any attack on US interests or ally will be met by fire and fury ?

Who knows

It all depends on how important Ukraine is to NATO, I think.
Not even Ukraine's elite sees NATO as important.

I'm hundred percent sure soon Ukraine will get F-16s and Patriots. Gradually US increasing the level of weapons.

US intends to send weapons to Ukraine - CNN

The United States may send additional weapons to Ukraine due to the threat of the Russian Federation, - CNN

The United States is in talks with European allies to develop a new package of sanctions in case Russian troops invade Ukraine.

The White House is considering the possibility of sending an additional batch of weapons to Ukraine due to the threat of a Russian attack. Also, the United States can send military advisers to Ukraine. On Monday, November 22, CNN reports.

According to the newspaper, Javelin anti-tank missiles and mortars may be included in the aid package to Ukraine. Air defense systems such as Stinger missiles.

The US Department of Defense insists on sending equipment to Ukraine, which was previously planned to be sent to Afghanistan. This includes, for example, Mi-17 helicopters. It is a Russian helicopter that the United States originally bought to be handed over to the Afghans.

"The Pentagon is now deciding what to do with them after the US withdraws from Afghanistan," says the message.

At the same time, a number of US officials are concerned that the shipment of weapons to Ukraine may be regarded by Moscow as a serious escalation of the conflict.

in particular, retired lieutenant colonel Cedric Leighton told CNN that the Javelin anti-tank missiles "are very effective against the T-80 tanks that the Russians are actually using against Ukraine right now."

He also noted that any additional assistance to Ukraine is undoubtedly fraught with "further exacerbation of tension in relations with Moscow."

Earlier, the media reported that the Ukrainian authorities turned to the United States with a request for the supply of Harpoon anti-ship missiles.

Recall that earlier Ukraine received a shipment of weapons from the United States. Arms and ammunition were delivered as part of the provision of additional security assistance from the US government to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Also, the United States called on the allies to supply Ukraine with weapons. A Pentagon spokesman said other countries need to lift restrictions on the supply of lethal weapons to Kiev.

This is the hurdle if they're given a more advanced weapons from the US.

am sure the US is smart enough to understand this.

Most of the money authorized by Congress is for weapons and equipment. Examples that expose the huge challenge of providing effective support are worth noting.
The first is Harris combat radios. These have been supplied to Ukraine in large numbers—as to other CEE militaries. The chief of communications of the Ukrainian Airborne Forces, the unit that has received the most Harris radios, told Come Back Alive
[47]
that because of the low quality of soldiers, they could not be taught properly. The soldiers would also not take responsibility for the equipment because if they lost anything, they had to pay for it. A brigade staff officer deployed to Donbas in a line infantry brigade confirmed that “signal and communication is the weakest part in battalions.”
[48]
He continued, “For example we get Harris Radios—but only a few people knowhow they work. And in day-to-day communication we doesn’t [sic] use them.”

The second is the supply of Javelin anti-tank weapons. This was more a political gift than a war-fighting weapon. The US government was concerned (quite rightly) that if delivered to the frontline, the weapons might either be sold or lost to the Russians. They were, therefore, put into storage near Kyiv 750 miles from the front line.

No attempt has been made to date by the Ukrainian staff (nor apparently the US) to think about strategic uses of the weapon, which could require changes to battle doctrines, structures, tactics or training of commanders at any level to deploy it effectively. Thus, the political and show value (and likely deterrence) was high, but the operational value was no better than that of the anti-tank weapons the Ukrainians produce themselves.

as I said, Ukraine needs to fix how its military works first before expensive arms came in. Am sure the US military planners and policy directors knows this

This may sound weird, but Turkey should offer training regiment to Ukraine and partially pick the soldiers they train. Imagine it as an opportunity to Tatars in Ukraine :)
