Might as well open this thread seeing as we’ve once again been reminded of the dangers of not having transparency and accoutability of constructions.

Remember AKP tore down most if not all og Bagdad Street in Istanbul and haf it rebuilt resistant. Hope they are resistant buildings.

I wonder if anyone is going to take explain this tweet. Who’s doing what and were they working slow ?
Seems like responsibility has been shifted to Presidential level.

They should have done it in Istanbul, two building in Kartal has collapsed out of nothing.
There is a rebuilding process of old buildings but 2/3 of istanbul is still living in unsafe houses, the contractors do not wish to rebuild unsafe buildings if it is not profitable.
Apart from earthquake houses, there isn't any disaster management plan -there are many on the paper, there is none on the field-, GSM operators do not comply with emergency procedures, the gathering areas are sold, or going to be sold for construction.
If that earthquake has happened in Istanbul, not in İzmir, i don't want to imagine the death toll, or how many ruins there were going to be.
It should be done in Istanbul, not in İzmir, the buildings are jammed in tight streets in there and a huge portion of those are not earthquake resistant, and built on weak foundation.

They like to make it a show, interrupting rescuers operations. Erdogan himself done it earlier too.
They should keep their dirty politics out of this.

Well, i remember reading that big Hospitals are being built in a way that they can operate even during an earthquake, they are completely isolated from the underground.
Istanbul alone has 50 such hospitals that are designated to operate in the expected big Istanbul earthquake that will kill around 200k people estimatedly .

Nothing going to change

Same thing over over again

There is no value for human life in this country

Rent seekers are waiting for disaster to happen so they benefit off it, government works with them too

Shock Doctrine

We should be able to go out and protest but if you protest you are a traitor, leftist, FETO, PKK

Only solution is hiring japanese specialists to review buildings and post them publicly without government interference.

That’s the value of independent institutions in a country.

Overpopulation of main cities, internal migration and now external migration.

You can't make even make proper urban plan because population growth is unpredictable.

With this mentality nothing is going to change

That house my grandfather build in Istanbul (1962) took that 1999 earthquake without any damages but the horrific pictures of my neigborhood there still in my head.

Those stingy greedy bastards sparing money on materials for profit, if a earthquake hits Istanbul and those new "modern" buildings also collapse then...

Bro I have friends that work in construction and shady shit that goes on even Australia is not immune to such cost cutting, shortcuts and outsourcing work.

I think Turkey's case is much worse. Australia has good laws that enforce proper building also proper materials.

I think Turkey has great laws the problem is whats the point in having good laws if its not enforced.

You need 3.party auditing in construction that needs to be big and famous firm to ensure they do it properly.

These are available for houses too, in lower scale and increases cost of the building (in bare -building costs) by 5%-15%. Applicable to existing buildings if it is suitable.

This is Bullshit we already know. All that work has already been done many times over. You want to spend money to update the damn thing ?

Just get moving! Give this task to AFAD and TSK, let them make a group to implement it.

More importantly annual budget to tear down old buildings and build news ones is needed, Province by Province. Managed and executed by the Province.

1.500 earthquake damaged houses are rented out in Kocaeli. Owners don't want them remade because they're making money off them.

If the country's economy had been better you'd just tear them down and rebuild them. Only option is for Province to appropriate these for a fair price and tear it down immediately.

Hazardous report on the building that collapsed.

Solution is simple, yet the government avoids it for sake of not loosing votes.
- Lock houses which doesn't comply with requirements, except the third case*.
- Fine people who breaks in the locks and rents their houses.
- *Make it compulsory only for the owner to live in damaged-weak houses but nobody else, home-owners will loose their income this way since the rest of his/her houses will be locked.

The residency registry is already online and centralized, it is not hard to achieve, control and enforce it.
