Draghi in Algeria today, some Europeans are not happy especially Spain, they are lobbying inside the EU In favor of the more expensive American LNGs, Spain's government is now working directly for the favor of Americans and not for the benefit of its people mind boggling 🤯 they are also buying more gas from Russia to resell it for neighbor countries.
This is how the Europeans want to get out of the dependence on Russian gas!!! Every government works for certain companies, and everyone wants to benefit from the crisis. The biggest loser is the one who pays the gas bill, the simple citizen.

Good analysis

Gas will continue to flow from Thursday. Dependencies go both ways, Russia needs to sell gas to Europe.
Yes but if Russia is really determined to cut the gas Russia can endure the deadlock longer than the EU. Russia is a country that can endure hard times.

Why?

Some gas operations will have to be ceased and its a big question if they can ever be operated again, if the flow of gas is stopped. It will not hurt them for the time being but permanently. Its their biggest source of income, they cant just pipe it somewhere else because thats not how their grid works.

The EU will still get gas from elsewhere, pay a higher price probably but LNG terminals will be up and running i.e. in Germany by January 2023. Companies will have more than a year to prepare for the next winter. There's plenty of gas available, its just very expensive right now because of the turmoil and because certain countries relied on Russia.

For example Germany, even in the worst case scenario that Nord Stream 1 will deliver nothing, there will be only a minor deficit of 5% of the needed gas per annum (https://www.handelsblatt.com/politi...m-1/28516746.html?nlayer=Meistgelesen_4441434). Gas reserves will be enough till January when the LNG terminal will start pumping.

If Russia continues to only deliver 40%, no issues. If Russia delivers 100% no issues.

People are overrating Russias position.

I don't mean to downplay Russia's problems but even if Russia can't sell their gas, they don't have to stop production because they can use it domestically. There are parts of Russia that haven't had heating for years that now have it and their energy is super-cheap now while in the West energy prices have shot through the roof.

EU countries are dumb, all because of Daiichi. Nuke would still solve a lot of the problems. I think the gas is needed for the business side not som much peoples consumption. Germany should go back to Nuke. Just increase security checks 10 fold.

It seems like Russia will continue providing gas through the Nord Stream pipeline.
