The French ministry of defence has announced the deployment of the anti-submarine frigate Latouche-Tréville off Libyan coasts to support the European naval mission Irini to enforce the UN arms embargo on Libya. The Latouche-Tréville will reinforce the other European ships deployed in the area, the Italian frigate Carlo Margottini (flagship) and the German air defence frigate Hamburg.

It must be noted that will be the last mission for the Latouche-Tréville that will be disarmed this autumn after 30 years of good services.

Is this a move to show they're back in the Irini operation after the withdrawel, or just a move to show solidarity with their allies ?

Because we're in autumn and she'll sail straight to Greece afterwards and be "dismantled" there ? :)

Well actually even after the withdrawal of the air defence frigate Jean Bart,France did on many occasions briefly take part in Irini. That included the air defence frigate Forbin, the FREMM Languedoc, aerial means like an E-3F (AWACS) and some Falcon 50.

30 years is good service time, but I imagine that she can still be used additional 10 years with life extension maintenance/upgrades.

I was thinking that it would likely be passed/sold to Greece for a symbolic amount given the current situation.

Though countries like Philippines would probably appreciate and have a greater need for it given Chinas activities.

The frigate Latouche-Tréville inspected the MEDKON SINOP,a Panama flagged freighter which had left the port of Ambarli in Turkey and heading to Misrata. Nothing suspicious was found.

The said freighter was already suspected of transporting weapons to Misrata in february, under the escort of the Turkish navy ships Göksu and Gökova.

I wish this effort was expanded by European navies to curb the flow of illegal migrants from Africa. Even my city in UK which is far from the Channel is now palpably being affected. The future looks grim. I actually feel sorry for France. While the elite cries foul on the "Muslim threat" the real threat is incubating south of the Sahara.

You can thank Nicholas Sarkozy for ousting Gaddafi who was actually doing the job of preventing Sub-Saharhans from coming onto Europes shores btw in France the Arabs and Sub-Saharans have race riots and they hate how Sub-Saharans are taking their "women"

Vain efforts...:cautious: they go on merchant ships and show a flag. They cannot approach the ships protected by the navy.
