For a short trip one doesn't need a passport or visa, just get a short term border pass at the border and you can enter Kazakhstan for an one day trip, you can exchange your money at the border office or some street exchange dealers. The border between China and Kazakhstan is marked by red and blue paint in the middle of a road, this Uighur girl jumped from China (red) into Kazakhstan (blue) and did some shopping in a shopping mall on the Kazakh side.

In the comment section she said she was tricked by the money exchanger, the money she got was Kyrgyzstan's currency, not Kazakhstan's...

I can’t actually tell if she is Han or Uighur. IMO it’s a security flaw of Kazakhstan to allow passage without passport As bare minimum.

How do you define "properly brainwashed"? She was just a high school student, so I don't know if she had a passport or not, all Chinese citizens can have passport regardless of their ethnicity.

She is an Uighur, check out her other videos on her youtube channel. the policy is reciprocal, Kazakhs can also visit China without passport and visa for a short term, the same policy is also applied in the border regions between China and Russia.

Kazahkstan and Xinjiang are at roughly the same economic development level, so neither sides have to worry much about illegal immigration, people on both sides are happy with where they are and what they have , this makes visa free policy possible in the border regions.
