Good deal. But not sure how MLRS will help Armenia at this point. Should have ordered Air defence guns and missiles. But long term, if they do survive the drones will be good for offence
Pinaka MRLS might be procured to compliment the Swathi weapons locating radars which we supplied to Armenia late last year. I'm now quite positive that an AD deal might as well be on cards down the lane...maybe Akash SAM to start with to deal with Azer's UCAVs

What's the price difference with a western equivalent?
There's some vague info regarding pricing but I found this on wiki/reddit

"Pinaka MBRL is stated to be cheaper than other systems. It costs ₹2.3 crore (US$290,000) per system compared to the M270 which costs ₹ ₹19.5 crore (US$2.4 million)"

First thing that will happen is that Turkey will sniff out the radar signature, find a solution to jam it and export the know how to Azerbaijan, China and Pakistan. And when Turkish drones start neutralising Indian radars, it will be a real headache for your marketing teams.

So you must've sniffed out all the radar signatures of Russian ADs in Ukraine and given it to the US and EU...wish it was as easy as saying it

Or the TB2's shot down in Ukraine with Russians gathering intel and technical knowhow which will be given to India or Turkish UAVs in pakistan's inventory all which'll be reverse engineered by china and sold for a much cheaper price. I wonder if such kinda events will cause bigger headaches for your marketing teams

Exactly my thought. They're procuring the wrong equipment from India to defend themselves against Azerbaijan.

@Zapper is pointing to the Swathi locating radars but the existence of the system in the Armenian arsenal is unclear.

@Nilgiri

It looks like the Armenians are still applying the same old school, Soviet-era strategies that led to their decisive defeat.

I agree, they should've prioritized ADs but Armenia's defense budget is around $600mn. Providing ADs or other potent CMs would require LoC from GoI. None of the current weapons systems we've provided so far are actually game changing tbh

As mentioned in post#7, Armenian defence officials have been pitched with some anti-drone systems developed by private Indian firms but it looks like they can counter smaller drones...the tech specs and capabilities of these systems are unknown but I hope Armenians actually consider em

Akash AD, integrating Astra AAM with their Su-30, swarm drones should be next

4 radars have been delivered sometime after the N-K conflict. This pic shows the actual Swathi radar bound to Armenia which is being loaded onto the Antonov

It looks like the Armenians are still applying the same old school, Soviet-era strategies that led to their decisive defeat.

From Indian POV, a sale is a sale and maybe some battlefield performance comes it way later for improvements to its tech here.

But that is separate to Armenia being a country that has put itself between a rock and a hard place figuratively and literally.

Post USSR and especially given their size, they should have gone all out to make sustainable peace with both AZ and TR. It is not the first neither the last country that got non-ideal borders from earlier history.....but that is not a cause to promote war especially one you have little chance of sustaining long term due to your size.

But instead (IMO) they have let things fester in their ego.

I do not see any military sale (given their small economy and also large economic problems in general within that small size) being any gamechanger for them as their larger issues are baked in by both their inheritance and own doing.

This thus also clouds their strategy as yes they ought to abandon soviet thinking (given this was first of all made for a soviet sized country and conflict) and orient towards inside-out approach (what are key things to have and how do you protect them, then work outwards).

But the catch 22 is they need to make peace to do that sustainably anyway....they just do not have the number of people, land size or economic size to do so otherwise.....and they are landlocked too. This is why they have become effectively a client state/protectorate of Russia....and one Russia does not gain a whole lot from supporting too strongly.

Why don't you post proof of your claim as well!!

I saw it on telegram on my phone and didn't bother taking a screenshot and upload it. A few Armenian news accounts posted that the ambassador was surprised by the president's statements as he was unaware of any deal.

I've seen your posts and it's quite obvious you're an anti-India poster...quite obvious for you to make such BS claims

As for Indian media being the source...even the news of India supplying Swathi radar also came outta Indian outlets initially until they were actually delivered

That's a significant difference. If it performs to a respectable level then its a steal at that price point.

It's a good way to milk Armenia, but I'm not sure if it's the right theater from a marketing standpoint. Besides the political and economic superiority, the geographical superiority also passed to Azerbaijan. Technical and tactical domination is at its peak. What I'm talking about here is not just inventory, I'm talking about force abilities and training level starting from the troop level to each element. If Armenia is again encouraged for war by its supporters, you will end up with nothing more than plenty amounts of UAV footage about newcomer systems falling apart, which not paid yet.

Basic knowledge about RF would say whatever you say cannot be conjured within a short period of time. Are you going to have radar jammers for every bandwidth? If what you say is true, it should be easy to equip 2G phones with 5G technology. Guess what it is not. You just need a basic spectrum analyzer with an antenna to sniff out the signature. It’s not exactly secret.

Secondly every system can be neutralized. The question is , if it’s worth the investment to have an counter system for every thing? Weapon locating radar tracks the incoming projectile and derives approximately where the artillery might be located. It does not fire weapons nor lock onto anything. Best way to counter it is shoot and scoop.
