It seems the Russian Standard Rifle aka the New AK12 actually sucks.

He goes into the noticeable bad choices (even though Russia had capacity to go differently) in this video fairly well:

Some of same issues will definitely plague the Ak-203 production series India is going for too (hence why I bring to this thread).

AK platform has always sucked. Who could expect a lot of success from AK?


Just cheap mass produced rifle which all bad guys could purchase, if the bad guy could have reached AR-15s, m-4 would steal AK's popularity.

BTW today US Army purchase AR-15 around 750usd so AK is not cheaper.

100% corruption involved while at the same time it could have been better but its just a ak74 again.

I don't like the gas block being exposed as it is especially.....especially when they know their SOF operators already use shroud there to place hands if needed.

The age old (AK) issue of wiggle tolerance on free float there crops up again as well.

Cost cuttings skimping on easy stuff.... (yet still price seems high for what you get) is indicative of the corruption cost you mention.

Russia just want to cost the cuts did not care because the Ak itself is reliable anyway. Really is a stupid mentality when small arm designs constantly evolve.

Us army is adopting the spear mcx while Russia is just too busy not giving a shit at all. Not just the Americans the Czechs, Poles, Germans, Belgians and the Austrians have upped their small arms including the Swiss.

The Russians are trying to do as much as possible while being cheap about it. Most likely as usual Russian corruption is in play. Brandon Herrera mentioned how the Russians even have accessory companies that make the Ak12 even better and the Russian army does bot even bother contacting them. Russian army is basically telling its soldiers get your own shit you are on your own.

I am being a bit harsh on it....but the design had number of flaws and the production quality (given state of govt ordinance factory) was not good.

I would rather India just continued with FN....and moved from FAL to FNC.

Pakistanis did lot better just license production of HK rifles, smgs etc

if it aint broke, why fix it or try redesign the wheel etc.

Good questio mate. Insas was a average design
Insas has many variants , latest one is insas mk1c

Which has rectified all the flaws in reported in earlier production of insas 1b1
This new version has pictianny rails to Mount Optics
As far as its performance is concerned, shooters have described it as very accurate and stable
Good recoil in the sense that it is stable compared to others .

Made in India with lots of corruption. Really sucks i give India points for trying. Too bad it led to more of buying kalashnikovs and sigs.

Ak 203 is purely a political gimmick. And nothing else .
It provides absolutely no advantage over other offered products at all, thing is Indian army has a generation of officers in higher commands who have fought only in insurgency operations, their minds are fixated at kalashnikovs.
Thats the only remotely possible reason i can think of , rest its a political gimmick .
The factory of ak 203 is setup in a place called amethi, which is the political stronghold of a opposition party leader called rahul Gandhi, by giving this factory to amethi .
Government wants to provide jobs and a little prestige to the people of the area.
And reduce rahul Gandhis support among the masses
