He should be defence minister before PM as we need some one like him . Rajnath is good , but we need some one like Gadkari to improve the efficiency of DRDO , OFB and Shipyards

Parrikar succeeded to an extent cos he was an technical guy from IIT and had an idea how the industrial process worked. Other than that, whether he was a great visionary in terms of military doctrines, strategic thinking etc we never got to know.
Obviously Infra development is different than the military industrial bureaucracy.
Under Rajnath Singh, same importance is being provided to infra development with regards to military infrastructure in bases, roads, tunnels, basic safety gears etc though due to small budget.

I think an technocrat should be made Minister for Defence Production which takes care of OFB, HAL etc and DRDO labs except strategic ones should be bought under them. Gadkari is a PM material though sadly till Amit Shah is present his chances are bleak.

The only reason I said Gadkari for defence is improve the processes and rot in the whole defence manufacturing system (DPU specific) . I 100% agree that a technocrat or a successful CEO should lead the ministry of defence manufacturing.

Parrikar was eager to learn and he know the importance of the pending deals , he has cleared the deals which were stucked for years . The focus on the foot soldiers started during his time like Sig Sauer , and protective vests

He should line up for PM too for the well-being of nation.

In my opinion, the most "action"-competent + execution+results based folks like these should be key "action" cabinet ministers (like finance, defence, transport).

It is the sweetspot area for both focused leadership + action/competency etc.

PM role spends too much time/effort doing a "bit of everything" and lot of symbolic/media ops + foreign policy + security etc....compared to time to focus on key results with bureaucrat underlings on the key inner affairs of Indian economy.

Cultivating such meritocracy is almost impossible in PM role...he just goes by gut instinct etc for delegation here (among other factors influencing in realm of politics).

Definitely closer to political retirement (with full experience achieved)....competent proven ministers can look at PM role (as they have built up practical experience in delegation) as newer choices develop for the cabinet positions etc.

Electronics major Samsung has completed the construction of the display manufacturing unit that is shifted from China to Noida in Uttar Pradesh, a release said on Sunday.

A delegation of electronics major Samsung led by the company’s Southwest Asia President & CEO Ken Kang called upon Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday.

The delegation said that owing to the better industrial environment and investor-friendly policies, Samsung decided to establish the Display Manufacturing Unit, which was located in China, in Noida, and the work of establishing it has been completed, an official release said.

The delegation mentioned that the construction work displays the commitment towards India and to make Uttar Pradesh a manufacturing hub, it said.

During the meeting with the delegation, the chief minister said that Samsung’s Noida factory is a classic example of success of the ‘Make in India’ programme, and added that this will help the youth of the state to get employment in the state.

Adityanath assured the delegation that the state government will continue to extend help to the Samsung company in future as well.

Over 20 semiconductor cos submit EOIs for PLI Scheme

The government will be open to negotiating new incentives

Over 20 semiconductor manufacturing and designing companies in high-end, displayand specialty fabrication have submitted expressions of interest (EOIs) to set up manufacturing plants in India. Of this, two-three are ‘very serious’ projects, according to the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA).
For semiconductor manufacturing, which majorly involves chip making, the government will be open to negotiating new incentives beyond the fixed incentives already announced.

“The government is looking at at least 3-4 companies leveraging this incentive or showing expression of interest. They do not want to fix what kind of incentives they want to provide. Once they have EOIs, they will customise incentives based on the company’s area of work, type of fab, and requirement. It will not be a one-size-fits-all solution and that is going to be USP of fab incentives this time compared to the traditional approach of take it or leave it,” Rajeev Khushu, chairperson, IESA told BusinessLine declining to name the companies.

Wooing investors

The government has been trying to bring a semiconductor fabrication unit to India for many years now however earlier schemes had failed to attract actual investments.

But this time Khushu reckons that there could be serious players since the Government is engaging with companies to understand what kind of incentives are required.

‘Open to hiking incentive’

“There are (existing) incentives which are already in place like $1 billion incentive per chip company wanting to set up their manufacturing unit in the country. The government is open to increase the incentive amount depending on the investment the company is bringing to the country. They wanted to mention a figure to create interest, but this also means that they are not restricting the figures to $100,000 or $1 million or a billion. As the government starts engaging with the companies participating, clarity on incentives will start becoming apparent.” The customised incentive approach was recommended by IESA.

“India has a large pool of engineers working in the semiconductors space, right from product defining up to fabrication. Even testing and validation of chips happens within the country once we receive engineering samples from the fab…All the countries are looking at having fabrication within the country not because they have demand, but it makes sense from a security and supply chain perspective to have fab within-country while becoming a part of the global supplier as well,” he said.

Khushu estimated that the sector has been growing at a CAGR of around 15 per cent for several years now although on a low base. Along with steady growth there has been an increasing demand for electronics owing to the younger population in India. All of these factors are early signs of expected growth, he said.

India's Hero Motors Company (HMC) Group has said that Hero Cycles has successfully delivered its first batch of Made in India e-bikes to Europe.

The shipment, under the HNF brand of Hero International (HIT), marks the start of the Indian bicycle major's plan to become a leader in the European Union (EU) market, the company said this week.

The first batch of around 200 units has been delivered to Germany, with further units planned for the EU in future.

The shipment marks a step forward to establish HMC as the largest fully integrated e-bike company in Europe, with a well-oiled manufacturing capability in India and brightens the prospect of India as a reliable supplier to the market other than China, HMC said in a statement.

Hero International the European bike and e-bike arm of HMC said the company's aim is to achieve an organic revenue of up to EURO 300 million by 2025, while adding EURO 200 million from inorganic growth.

The first HNF branded bike built in India has landed on European shores. This is a big moment for the company and will demonstrate its ability to disrupt the market in Europe, said Jeff Weiss, the London-based CEO of Hero International.

Clearly, a major part of the future is e-bikes with e-bike sales expected to reach around 15 million units in Europe by 2030. We are confident that Hero is poised to become a market leader in this segment, making high-quality e-bikes fusing HNF's engineering and design expertise with Hero's manufacturing capability, especially with the 100-acre Cycle Valley in Ludhiana, he said.

The company believes its latest batch of e-bikes to Europe overcomes the bicycle supply chain disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. While supplies dwindled and lead times for components increased manifold, consumer demand for bikes and e-bikes sky-rocketed.

To cater to this growing demand for bikes and e-bikes, Hero said it established its digital supply chain company Hero Supply Chain (HSC) a team specialised in logistics management and digital transformation. HSC is designed to act as a consolidated buying house for HIT and cater to the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) demand in the EU for supplies from India. Hero's latest venture, Spur, will manufacture key components for bicycles in house, a move aimed at further de-risking the value chain.

Where most of our competitors are struggling with supplies, the partnership with HSC allows uninterrupted supplies for bikes and e-bikes even in this high-demand period. Since HMC is also setting up component manufacturing in-house, the dependence on external component suppliers will be reduced, Weiss added.

The European arm of HMC was created to cater to the booming European market by acquiring Avocet Sports in Manchester in the UK in 2016. Avocet Sports, later renamed as Insync Bikes, is one of the largest bike distributors in the UK, with more than 22 per cent market share in the kid's bike segment.

By 2019, the European market was drifting increasingly towards e-bikes, and demand for high-tech, light and durable e-bikes for sustainable commuting was growing. HMC decided to leverage its automotive manufacturing experience to venture into manufacturing premium e-bikes in India while acquiring HNF Nicolai, a premium German e-bike brand, to enter the European e-bikes market.

Today, the bike market in India is valued at EURO 0.8 billion with 15 million bikes a year, whereas the European market is 15 times that of India. The e-bikes market, where the growth lies, is valued at EURO 5 billion for Europe, 50 times that of India, valued at EURO 0.1 billion, said HMC Group Chairman and Managing Director Pankaj M. Munjal.

With a conducive environment to thrive both in terms of infrastructure and policies, e-bikes were popular in Europe at a time the concept was in its nascence in India. Apart from a business decision, foraying into the European market was aimed at highlighting our strength as market creators and leaders in India, we have much more to offer to the world our vision now is to become the largest fully-integrated e-bike company in Europe, he said.

Hero Cycles, part of India's HMC Group, has a manufacturing capacity of 6 million bicycles per year and a network of plants located in Ludhiana (Punjab), Ghaziabad (UP), and Bihta (Bihar). It also has a state of the art manufacturing facility in Sri Lanka as well as a Design Centre in the UK. It also owns UK-based Avocet Sports, Germany-based HNF, and Firefox Bikes in India.

Nehru did what was right that time, modi is doing what is right today, if you still belive in congress in today’s date then you’re doing a big mistake.
Why? I agree Congress & UPA was/were and will be supremely corrupt with ministers like Shibu Soren, Lalu Yadav, A Raja, Kalmadi and Pawar.

But the economy was booming - with everything from real estate to Pharma to telecom to IT booming under the UPA regime. BJP's economic policies have been horrible - they've completely sucked liquidity from the markets.

And I've not even started on the social upheavel they've caused by branding themselves as patriots and everyone else as non nationalists. It's a recipe for disaster.

Reforms won’t make you a big economy overnight, GST reform in 2017 is helping us now, see the GST collections even during brutal wave. The projects BJP is doing and has done is better, that Congress never used to do a work without corruption.

I disagree. UPA 1 did a lot of good - India-US nuke deal. GST was mooted by UPA 1 too and opposed by BJP. Their interferece with institutions was also not as blatant or proactive as that of Modi / Shah.

Glad this is my first post... :)

Coming to quoted post -

What you saw and wrote above was tip of iceberg. When you know that your can get few thousand crores loan on phone , things become easy & that was the reason for booming sectors, specially reality sector. No doubt all major players went bust and are cooling heels in Tihar.

BJP's economic policies appear horrible because they are still clearing the mess left by famed economist. Moreover loans on phones are missing and easy money is off the table.

A honest Question - If liquidity was sucked out of markets, how come markets are still booming. we were almost importing everything from china et all . You can;t progress with a import oriented economy.

No one can disagree , major hike in real estate took place during ( 2004-2014 ) that period only and some how middle class took max benefit out of it.

i had say upper middle class all funded by debt . Affordability was biggest factor which resulted in doom. Many projects are still not complete . Builders went around buying more land launching more projects instead of delivering existing one's since suitcase reached south block early ... the moment govt changed, all ended up in Tihar and mess for middle class.

You know again yes it was messy but for those who have some actual money made some really handsome returns during that perion my own father multiplied one small investment 7 times in 3 years .
It was weird but yes those who went on taking loans end up in soup too

Rightly said. It was bubble and investors market hence the artificial boom. The moment , bubble burst happened, everybody came crashing down. Sectors like real estate cannot run on investors money and artificial inflation. Sooner or later you will need people who stays in those homes.

Pit fall was that the real people who needed those homes ended up no where and are still looking for homes but wary of these builders now.

Markets are booming because of speculation. Can you explain the following stocks' stupendous rise?

Adani Green
Adani (pretty much anything)

Seems how the stock of Tips has skyrocketed?

If they are clearing a mess for 7 years economically, just how efficient are they? What did demonization achieve?

Where are their smart cities? Bullet train? Swach Bharat? Toilets?

Cronyism is a reality everywhere. Yes, UPA took kickbacks. But RBI was independent. Democracy isn't just about voting. It's also about the independence of institutions. That's my take anyway.

FYI, the biggest builder in India's biggest real estate market is Lodha. He is a BJP MLA since years.
Every BJP / Congress /NCP / Shiv Sena leader worth his salt has either some real estate business in Bombay or some link to a cooperative bank in Vidharba.

You think Jay Shah is in BCCI because he knows his doosra from his googly or because he can mint money?
