TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan responded to the question asked at the annual "CNBC Indonesia Economic Outlook 2021" event held online on Thursday, February 25, 2021. During the event, CT Corp chairman and founder Chairul Tanjung questioned the minister over the government's policies he consider to be 'China-centric'.

"Everything now seems to come from China, such as vaccines, investments, and Pak Luhut is considered the commander in charge and maybe Pak Luhut can provide an explanation to business-goers and the general public about it," said Chairul.

In response to the statement, Luhut Pandjaitan said that "[the statement] seems to convey a message that [Indonesia] is close to China, well yes, but so does with Abu Dhabi because President Jokowi's relation with the crown prince is quite exceptional."

Luhut later elaborated on Indonesia's close relations with other countries other than China by stating that Indonesia had received a record-breaking USD19 billion investment pledged by the UAE. Luhut also mentioned Indonesia’s closeness with the United States which he described as "great".

The Minister claimed that China views Indonesia as a country with a friendly investment climate and said that Indonesia shares the same sentiment.

However, Luhut Pandjaitan assured that Chinese investments in Indonesia has met the requirements set by the Indonesian government and assures that "they are not dictating anything."

Yup, we should cooperate with China where our interest converge, like vaccines, continued investment especially in mining and infrastructure sectors, while being militarily close with the US especially in regards to military exercise, rejection of China's claim in the SCS, intelligence cooperation, and continued cooperation in supply and supports of military hardware.

Unless you're Australia, then this is the best possible option.

China has no interest in military partnership due to China's defensive nature, China's focus is always on economic level, so it's good enough for China.

Nice, would love to see more investment by UAE.

Lets hope military hardware purchase from US is smooth, even better if there is no corruption involved.

This lie narrative won't work. China is super offensive. They build at least 7 artificial islands in SCS, to coerce its Southeast Asian neighbors into abandoning their rights.

Hundreds of militia vessels and a large number of coast guard ships engage in frequent harassment of civilian and law enforcement activities by neighboring states, making it prohibitively risky for Southeast Asian players to operate in the South China Sea.

Several times already china coast guard ships entering Indonesia ZEE. Not to mention the underwater spy drones to map the Indonesian seabed for submarines paths.

80% of china oil import are passing through Indonesian straits so china is 100% interested in military partnership. The problem is that Indonesia is not interested.

This has been becoming the manipulated standard answer of china spies online regarding the SCS. Wish you guys could be more creative.
What's wrong with the map, isn't it the hard ground reality there? Why China has just 7 reefs there and is being portrayed as a sole agressor in SCS while Vietnam having 29 of them and isn't?
