Indonesia has acquired two different classes of Sigma design, 4 of the ships as OPV /Corvette named project 9113 (from Length 91- Beam 13 meters) and 2 (6 planned) ships of the Frigate named project 10514 (Lenght 105 - Beam 14). Product sheet is given in the attachments.

Fun Fact, Indonesia's Sigma 9113, is the sole platform to use MBDA Mistral Tetral Launcher

Indonesia loves fantasy moves in its forces, but proven platforms are always better.
It is just simbad RC with quadruple launcher. I wonder why didn't they pick single sadral.

Recently the Navy Chief had made a plea to the MoD to go ahead with the retirement of 10 ships.

Indonesian Navy chief downplays request to revive ageing vessels

in which I quoted:
"Resources to revive the ten ageing ships could be better deployed to improve the operational capabilities of vessels such as the Diponegoro-class corvettes, said Indonesia’s navy chief. "

If this is true, then I believe the 4 Diponegoro's are likely to be upgraded in the future, Indonesia in the past had invested in advanced EW jammer on this ships by installing GPS jammers, Decoys which are all soft kill system.
As the Mistrals are inadequate for anti ship killing mission, I suppose the Navy Chief will decide to upgrade the Ships with Hard kill weapons system. Looking at how the US recent push on arms sales , the warming up with Prabowo and the overall Indonesian willingness to do upgrades based on the US model like that of the F-16 MLU program, a missile based CIWS like that of a RIM-116 could one day installed onboard.

I mean the similarly sized K130 class corvettes used 2 for each ships

Fun Fact #2

SIGMA 9113 corvettes of the Indonesian Navy are the first in the world to operated UAV based portable aerial magnetic range/measurement system.

STERNA flies for Indonesian Navy - The first Magnetic Measurement Mission by UAV

1007-754-473-eca-group-uav-it180-120-unmanned-aerial-vehicle.jpg

he STERNA™ system benefits from the design and outstanding performances of IT180 UAV. This combat proven versatile mini drone is easy to use, even in harsh weather conditions or in hostile environments.

With an autonomy of up to 2hours giving, ECA Group’s IT180 aerial drone will:

  • Carry payloads up to 5kg (EO/IR, LIDAR…)
  • Detect floating drifting mines in front of an expeditionary naval force in transit,
  • Relay data as trans-horizon radio relay with the other aerial drones and the naval surface drones (USV) implemented by the same ship.

STERNATM can be used for different type of magnetic measurements performing several runs along the longitudinal axis:

  • At least one run to measure submarine in MAD type measurement (Magnetic Anomaly Detection): height of flight chosen far enough to be in the simple dipolar area of the submarine but close enough to have signal
⇒ Direct computation of MAD risk

  • At least three runs to check vessel’s magnetic signature (with or without degaussing system): height of flight chosen far enough to avoid vessel’s superstructure and local magnetic effects but close enough to have signal
⇒ Evaluation of MAD risk, escape scenario and mine risk, checking of the magnetic signature and of the degaussing system efficiency on operation theatre

how possible is this ,meanwhile officials from MoD are concerning on budget limitations?
21x RAM with launcher is about 24-25 million $, if there are any way of upgrading, adding MICA-VL could be a better option for Diponegro class (also would impose the "commonality" with Bung tomo MLU).
Even 2x Oerlikon can be more useful to engage both aerial and surface targets for lower prices.

That is just my guess tho, if money is the problem I think the Navy must at least find a way to replace the Mistrals with something like a Phalanx, which its 20x102mm ammo are common with the M61 guns operated by the Air Force.

also the Indonesian Defense budget is rising steadily over the years, with $9.2B for FY 2021, and I think It'll keep increasing

Indonesia announces strong increase in 2021 defence budget

Documents recently published by the Ministry of Finance in Jakarta showed that the country’s defence budget for 2021 has been set at IDR136.99 trillion (USD9.2 billion). The documents also show that the 2021 expenditure is a 16.2% increase over the original 2020 defence budget of IDR117.9 trillion.

That budget never goes to Navy only, Air force also constantly needs new platforms while Land forces also seek something new. There is an overall modernization.
Tetral is not bad, and guess but the corvette was meant to be low-cost while it is designed. But i agree, at least one CIWS is needed on there especially on the rear side, and Oerlikon millennium gun can be integrated easily.

For starters, I do understand that $9.2B are gonna be distributed to all 3 armed branch, I've never pointed otherwise
we also need to pay attention that the Navy Chief pointed out that money could be taken from allocation of maintenance from the planned 10 to be decommissioned ships.

Tetral is a good missile system as it was designed, but it's no way suited for the threat environment that the Navy is facing, in particular from the North. we need a more capable system installed on every major surface combatants .

and as for VL MICA, last year me having a discussion on other forumer on other defense forum stating that there's isn't enough room for an installation of VL-Mica VLS on the rear of the main guns because the space below are occupied.

I think Indonesia intends to and going to have an air-defense frigate class soon, it may take up to 2025 or beyond to get those in service, those ships will be sufficient to counter the threat from the "North" :). And i believe this class will come in different sizes for further needs (probably to fill the gap from 120-150 meters). Thus it doesn't make much sense to comprehensively upgrade Diponegro class.
Which ships were meant to be decommissioned but will be revived? Are there any combatants? Some of the aged combatants are really in bad condition and i doubt if those can be revived.
Also there is KCR project which can evolve into a decent corvette, only if enough attention, financial support and trust is given.

Seems like it is only accommodation and support space -stocks etc. and between of two modules, the width may be limitation but some amount of MICA VL can be fitted but then it might require installation of other radars to illuminate-or to detect the targets (if intended for SHORAD)
