Chief of Navy Staff Admiral Yudo Margono at the position handover ceremony of Commander of the Fleet Commander from Vice Admiral Abdul Rasyid to Rear Admiral Heru Kusmanto at Arafuru Yard of Fleet Command I, in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, September 27, 2022.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Navy has readied 12 warships to secure the G20 Summit scheduled to take place in Bali in November 2022.

"In the meantime, we are preparing 12 warships, and later, we will appoint Fleet Commander II Admiral T.S.N.B. Hutabarat, as the operational control command, in order to secure the sea," Chief of Navy Staff Admiral Yudo Margono stated after a position handover ceremony of Commander of the Fleet Commander from Vice Admiral Abdul Rasyid to Rear Admiral Heru Kusmanto at Fleet Command I here on Tuesday.

According to Margono, the security plan for the G20 Summit was still being discussed by National Defense Force Commander General Andika Perkasa.

Margono said his command had discussed about some warships that will be dispatched for the G20 Summit security plan.

He also hinted at the possibility of security from warships of other countries whose delegations were participating in the G20 Summit.

"(It is) because this is the Indonesian territory, and of course, we will control them. In this marine sector, we will arrange the position of foreign warships, the position of (our own) warships conducting patrols," he remarked.

This had become an international agreement, in which a country that hosted events had ships of other countries that would guard their head of state in the host country's territory, and then the host country will arrange the patrols, he remarked.

The 17th G20 Summit will be hosted in Bali on November 15-16, 2022. The summit will be the peak of an intensive process and efforts throughout the G20 workflow of Ministerial-Level Meetings, Working Groups, and Engagement Groups during Indonesia's year-long presidency.

Indonesia's theme for the 2022 G20 Presidency is "Recover Together, Recover Stronger," which served as the government's call to the world to work hand in hand, support one another to recover together, and grow stronger in a sustainable manner.

The three main priority issues raised at the meeting were the global health architecture, sustainable energy transition, and digital and economic transformation.

The G20 was a multilateral cooperation forum comprising 19 major countries and the European Union. The G20 represents over 60 percent of the world's population, 75 percent of global trade, and 80 percent of the world's Gross Domestic Product.

Its members included South Africa, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, India, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Canada, Mexico, Republic of Korea, Russia, France, China, Turkey, and the European Union.

Is it big for 2 frigates?

$401 mil only for armaments for two ships?

Using some various random samples, just roughly:

- Royal Navy allegedly spent $550 mil - $600 mil to add 24 Sea Ceptor (naval CAMM) silos to each of their six Type-45 destroyers.

So basically $100 mil per ship for 24x AAW.

- US approved the sale of 20 Harpoon missiles + 4 cannisters to Egypt in a deal worth $145 mil.

So basically $70 mil per ship for (10 missiles + 2 cans each) ASW.

- Rheinmetall sold two Oerlikon Millennium guns for an unnamed European Navy for $12 mil. So $6 mil each.

- Torpedoes will cost about $2 mil each. The launcher probably < $1 mil each. Not sure how many we'd like to have.

- The Philippines spent $1.1 mil for Oto Melara 76mm guns for their two Jose-Rizal ships. So $550k each.

So total : $100 mil (24x AAW) + $70 mil (2x10 ASW) + $6 mil (Millennium gun) + $0.5 mil Oto Melara = $176.5 mil.

If the budget is $200.5 mil for each ship then there's still $24 mil left for the torpedoes, additional guns, and more VLS perhaps?

note : not sure we'd spend that much on ASW.

If they opted for Brahmos, how much it will costs? Brahmos is more expensive than tomahawk right?

Brahmos is $4.85 mil each, but this is for the extended range version that the Indian Navy bought recently for their newest P-15B destroyers.

Plus $25 mil for each ship missile launchers, command centre, and radar.

Btw, the point is that $400 mil budget is not really "huge" if it's for both ships. Unless it's $400 mil for each ship :D

Hopefully the approximate price above is way off. Especially the $100 mil for 24x AAW.

Formidable-class has 32x AAW (Aster), we should have more.

Is it big for 2 frigates?
looks big, but its multi years procurements. it should be more fit with our financing posture. its sholudn't be a problem, Air Force, Navy much full of capital. multi years for big procurements better than buying 5 fake KCR every years

For comparison, maybe we could see Poland AH140PL 2 bil for 3 fully armed frigates will be armed with 32 mk41, bofors 57mm, 4 RBS SSM

$2 bil for 3 fully armed warships? So $666 mil each.

The estimated price for the ship alone is about $305 mil (Royal Navy) - $360 mil (Indonesian Navy).

So total cost for the armaments, systems, radar, etc is $306 mil - $361 mil for each ship.
