According to information published by Pars Today, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran unveiled its three new weapon systems in the fields of drones, radar as well as the 9-Dey air defense missile system. The “9 DEY” surface-to-air missile is designed to intercept a range of air threats, such as ballistic missiles, UAVs, and helicopters.
This system is designed from the combination of new advanced "9-Dey" missiles with the radar and launcher of the "Khordad 3" system. The 9-Dey Short and Medium Range Air Defense Missile System is tasked with destroying a variety of ordinary targets, such as fighters, helicopters, and drones, in addition to the specialized mission of destroying fast cruise missiles and bombs dropped by enemy planes.

In videos posted during Major General Salami's visit to the 9-Dey missile production line, the phrase "command guidance" can be seen on some missiles. The meaning of this sentence is that the method of guiding this missile is to receive correction commands to move towards the target. In this method, which is used in many surface-to-air missiles, the missile itself may not have an internal sight. In this case, this makes it possible to lighten and reduce the diameter of the missile. Of course, the ground system needs more power because, until the moment of impact it has to follow simultaneously all its missiles and the enemy targets, and hit the target by calculating correction orders.

The trapezoidal wing in the middle to the rear of the fuselage and the control wings mounted at the end of the fuselage had the characteristics of a successful "Taer" missile configuration. The difference in dimensions between the 9-Dey missile and that of Taer showed that the 9-Dey missile was developed for close-range targets.

A length of about 3.5 to 4 meters and a diameter of about 25 cm can be speculated for this missile. The 9-Dey missile weighs about 200 kg. This missile uses solid fuel propellants and its speed can be estimated at more than 3 to 4 times the speed of sound (Mach 3 to Mach 4) according to examples of the same class around the world. In this case, the time required to reach the final range of 30 km can be calculated between 22-32 seconds. The 9-Dey missile also has advanced laser proximity fuses to achieve the best position relative to the target. In addition to a radar, the 9-Dey system is also equipped with a thermal imager and optical detector. A wide range of electro-optical systems is manufactured in the country.

The 9-Dey system is a fully mobile system with independent radar on each launcher as well as 8 ready-to-fire missiles and the ability to engage multiple targets simultaneously. The organization of the 9-Dey defense system is formed by the installation of two sets of four 9-Dey missiles on the previous launcher of the Khordad 3 system, and each battalion of the 9-Dey system has the capacity to engage 32 targets simultaneously.
