Erşat Salihi: 'Kirkuk Special Force' should be established

Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITC) Kirkuk Deputy Erşat Salihi touched upon the agreement between Kirkuk and the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government (IKRG).

Emphasizing that this agreement is "incomplete", Turkmen Deputy Salihi reminded that according to the Iraqi Constitution, the Peshmerga are only responsible for protecting the borders of the KRG.

Noting that the Peshmerga acted under the influence of political parties, Salihi demanded the establishment of the Kirkuk Special Force affiliated to the Iraqi central government to protect Kirkuk from the terrorist organization ISIS.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, the Turkmen Deputy said that this special force to be established could include Arabs and Kurds in addition to Turkmens.

'GOVERNMENT OF RECONCILIATION MUST BE ESTABLISHED'

Salihi also stated that a government with a political majority in Iraq cannot be successful.

"A government of reconciliation should be established in Iraq, including Turkmens." Salihi said that it is important to establish an inclusive government with a new vision and long-term strategy in order to get rid of the country's political and economic problems.

Turkmen Deputy Salihi argued that otherwise the new government would be no different from the previous failed governments, and demanded that independent deputies, who gained weight in the parliament as a result of the last elections, should be included in the government.

'A GOVERNMENT WITHOUT TURKMEN SHALL BE INCOMPLETE'

Emphasizing the necessity of not excluding any party in the new government, Salihi said, "A government without Turkmens would be incomplete. Turkmens should be given a ministry or vice-presidential task in the new government." expressed his opinion.

Salihi also argued that the Turkmens could not evaluate the last election well, adding, "It would have been possible to get the chance to participate in the election more seriously and in a planned manner and to enter the parliament with a larger number of deputies." said.
