The case is unusual. According to Hans Jørgen Bonnichsen, former chief of operations of the Police Intelligence Service, politically sensitive espionage cases are often handled in the utmost secrecy:

"It takes a lot before raising such a public indictment, because that kind of thing can have diplomatic and foreign policy consequences."
