Just another routine in Indonesia, nothing special about it You should try hiking to Semeru / Mahameru summit, its erupt every 20 minutes with occasional lava bomb that might fall upon any hikers

Anyway this is how its look from Mt. Lewotolok observation post. Magnificent view eh

Semeru also erupt.

Semeru have been continuously erupting since the early 1960. Only the intensity and the ejected materials that vary. That is why the local folks at the slope of Semeru were caught by surprised, because they were so accustomed to continuous eruptions thus never anticipate lahar flow. Thankfully the winds from 850 hPa to 500 hPa are blowing roughly eastward thus I don't need to worry about volcanic ash fall.

Interestingly I've noticed a series of deep tectonic tremor in the seismic histogram. That may suggest more intense subduction activity deep within the convergent zone of the Australian plate & Sunda plate that has trigger recent volcanic activity of Mt Merapi, Mt Semeru, and Mt Lewotolo
