The current pro-Turkey administration lacks internal stability with many actors waiting for a weakness to exploit and take the administration down. Recent reports by Middle East Eye are stating that the Assad family, in Russia, is gearing up for a possible conflict to try and take back control of Syria.

YPG-held areas contain most of Syria's resources. For Syria to restart functioning properly, these lands must be under state-control. Moreover, with Turkey toppling Assad and YPG's core value getting destroyed, the US feels that the YPG isnt as significant to the US as before and the YPG knows that very well. Thus, they are trying to announce either autonomy or semi-autonomy for their controlled regions. If this happened, then the DEM party/radical kurds will 100% create some sort of rebellion in Turkish lands within the next 10 years; that Iam sure of!

Moreover, Israel, according to their media, is officially planning to annex lands post Golan heights. If Turkey wants to have a significant deterrent between itself and Israel, then a strong Syria is a must and a strong Syria can only happen when the pro-Turkish govt controls all of Syria. Therefore, toppling the YPG is of utmost importance to Turkish internal security and this has been stated by Hakan Fidan numerous times

Ofcourse, just like you said, the AKP might back out at the final moment (just like in the past 6 years). However, for Assad's fall to truly work in Turkey's favour, toppling the weak YPG is a must or it will grow into a behemoth that Turkey wont be able to control in the future

Recent situation regarding Syria
The US is forcing both the govt and SDF to sign a deal within the next few days with massive concessions on both sides

1- the YPG and women's protection units will not be dissolved and instead incorporated into the Syrian army as an independent unit
2- Per the SDF's request, the constitution and education will be changed to favour kurds/kurdish language as an official language
3- The Syrian army will be able to enter the North and East of the country (Al-Jazirah)
4- The Syrian army wont be able to command the SDF army
5- The SDF army will be incorporated as a brigade composed of 3 battalions
6- The Govt will control all border crossings with Turkey and all the airports
7- In return for the major concessions by the Govt to the SDF; the SDF will give the control of all of Der ez Zor region and major parts of Raqqa governorate to the Syrian govt (except inside the cities itself)
8- The SDF will stop child recruitment

Keep in mind that all of these are still rumors mainly from pro-pkk sites and some pro-govt sites are echoing it (even those that used to reject such sources before); thus, giving it more legitimacy than normal especially considering the fact that Israel will never allow their 40-year project to be destroyed by Turkey


Will Turkey accept such a deal? Hakan Fidan is expected to attend the final meeting between the SDF and the govt in the coming days
