According to the site africa intelligence naval group will sell the scorpene SSK submarine to moroccan navy as part of a contract to provide an undisclosed number of submarines
By winning a contract for the construction of an Avante 1800 patrol vessel, the Spanish Navantia aspires to become a regular supplier to the Royal Moroccan Navy. The French Naval Group is concentrating its efforts on submarines.

Quite surprising Morocco is still among the few mediteranean country that doesn't have any submarine, especially considering its neighbor operates them since the 80's.

Few years ago there were rumors about acquiring Russian submarines, but it seems the idea fell apart. The most serious candidates would indeed be Navantia and Naval Group.

Are these submarines, diesel or nuclear powered??
Diesel with AIP (air independent propulsion)

From 1980 morocco did not make acquring submarines a necessity because of the war in the sahara plus MRN knew algeria's intention of acquiring submarines so decided to buy descubierta class asw corvette to give the navy a pushing but algerian kilos does represent a threat to mrn due to its acoustic signature plus its engine making a lot of noise
Interest in submarines dated back from 2000 and now with delays being overcomed and dealt with moroccan royal navy will prepare the infrastructure and training for the scorpene entering service with the submarine force
