@Anmdt is it technically possible to fit the I class export version with a modified and compact version of cafrad?
Technically yes, the mast of I-class is wide enough to accomodate CFR (X-band MFR module) of CAFRAD.

But that would require another spot for CENK-S. That would either require a whole new mast design to carry body CFR and CENK-S or an additional mast near midbody for CENK-S.

Don't know if it counts since it is rather an R&D and technology gain project.

DATUM - ITU NOVA (SSB project)

  • Multi purpose midget submarine technology demonstrator (under construction)

This timeline doesn't include harbor and seakeeping trials, right? If it does, that is fast as hell, kudos to those dockyards.

And a question about Istif class frigates to those with more knowledge than me, is there an approximate figure about how much each ship costs?

The only shipyard which has facilities and equipments and the personnel is Golcuk Naval Shipyard.
Alaybey shipyard was being prepared to build and refit frigates / AKDGs.
And one more place that can build parts of a submarine is Gurdesan. And it should be where STM continuing the production of the test section.

Istif ESM/ECM suite consists of
ARES-2NV2/E and AREAS-2NC/E

/E stands for extended frequency range.

The frequency range of the basic configuration is 2-18 GHz. /E version is up to 0.5-40 GHz
ERP (effective radiated power) of basic configuration is 80 dBm. /E version is classified.

Operational frequency bands(0.5-40GHz hard limits), ERP, and the number of transmitter channels can be changed in accordance with customer requirements.

According to @Anmdt ’s above post, first steel cutting of I-Class ’s 3 new ships will start in April this year. They give a time frame of 36 months before ships are delivered. But in 6 monthly intervals. That makes it Mid 2027 before all 4 I-Class ships are in our inventory.
Now some members have come up with 24 months being more realistic for a ship that has already been built. Correct. But we have to be devil’s advocate, and as per past performance of local ship building, we have to take the longer time as being more accurate.
4 ships that are 60% larger in tonnage than Istanbul Class and have almost the same fire power of any modern frigate, and can keep up with the endurance of TCG Anadolu, and that will be available for service within 6-12 months; Even if they are 20+ years old and will cost us around 100 million dollars each, it is not easy to push aside with the back of our hands.
Plus , although our Hizir Sonar is good , it is not the same as the one on Type 23. The ASW capability of these frigates are worth the money. They can track nuclear subs.

Also it is worth noting that ; By the time we finish with the Istif Class, each ship will be worth more than 500 million dollars.

I think this is something people who vehemently argue against this deal overlook. We can get 4 Type-23's and upgrade them for about the same amount we can build 1 smaller frigate. And in just about the same time frame as well. There is a limit to what we can do by ourselves and not taking a good deal like this (if it is considered a good deal by TN) would be a mistake. This will neither kill our own shipbuilding effort nor will it kill our sales.
