On 1 March 2021, all Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLu, Royal Netherlands Air Force) air transport assets were officially combined within a new command within the Dutch defence organisation, the Air Mobility Command (AMC).

The AMC, based at Eindhoven air base, is one of four new commands. It does not only handle all transport tasks within the KLu, but also that from the international partners. For this reason the European Air Transport Command (EATC), the Multinational MRTT Unit (MMU) and the Movement Coordination Centre Europe (MCCE) have become a structural part of the AMC.

According to the Commander of the Koninklijke Luchtmacht, Lieutenant-General Dennis Luyt, the AMC is the first of a series of important changes that will be implemented in the organization of the air force in the coming period.

The other new commands that will be set up are a redesigned Defence Helicopter Command (DHC) and the Air Combat Command. Additionally the Air Support Command, responsible for the support of the three commands, will be set up.
