During a bridge-building training exercise that was held near Tianshan Mountains located in Central Asia, the Chinese army has unveiled a newly launched bridge system called REBS (Rapidly Emplaced Bridge System), mounted on an 8x8 military truck chassis.

Chinese soldiers assigned to an engineer regiment under the PLA Xinjiang Military Command have deployed the Rapidly Emplaced Bridge System (REBS) during a bridge-building training exercise at the foot of the Tianshan Mountains on February 3, 2021.

The design of the bridge launching system is very unique with the bridge system mounted on a hydraulic lift that rises up to the height of the crew cabin cab, thus allowing the bridge to be deployed.

The REBS consists of three spans, each of which is carried and launched from the rear of a modified 8x8 military truck chassis. A complete REBS with three spans can cross a gap up to 23 m. All the launching operations can be performed from inside of the crew cab. It takes only 10 minutes for the construction of the bridge. The truck stops in front of the obstacle to be crossed, a trench or a river, and the hydraulic launching girder raises the folded spans to the vertical position, the span is straightened by a cable and winch system and then lowered.
