The Norwegian Government has not yet approved the sale of Bergen Engines (affiliated with Rolls-Royce Holdings) to Russia’s TMH Group. Norway’s NSM security agency has launched an investigation into the €150m company sale.

The NSM has begun assessing the security impact of the possible sale on the Norwegian Navy and the civilian sector. “There is significant uncertainty about national security interests,” Norwegian Justice Minister Monica Maeland told a news conference.

UK-based Rolls-Royce said it had decided to sell Bergen Engines, which makes engines for air platforms and ships, to help it recover from the economic crisis it has been hit by the pandemic. A Rolls-Royce spokesman also said they had properly informed the government before announcing the sale. The company announced the suspension of the sale process, as requested by the Norwegian government.

Bergen Engines is also a supplier to Norway’s Navy, a NATO member.

Wouldn't it be better if Turkey had bought the company and applied TOT like with the Finnish company ?

Is Bergen engines involved in the manufacture or assembly of high-bypass aircraft engines? If not, why has this stock image of a Rolls Royce Assembly and Test facility been posted?

As a common stereotype says, East Asians are good at electronics and Europeans (or descendants) in Mechanical Engineering.

If tiny Finland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland or Austria can produce a variety of land vehicle, marine vehicle or drone engines, there should be no reason much bigger, much more populous countries should struggle with the same.

Yet, here we are. Apart from East Asians, I do not believe other regions struggle quite as much with developing or manufacturing simple engines, transmission or propulsion systems.

If you buy it to move it then they may, but if you buy it to run it and provide jobs etc. you can always build a new factory etc. with the knowledge gained at a later date. That's how you do it, and that's how others do it.

Doing anything else would just get you a no.

Yes.. Kale Aero would join R&R in Bergen Engines or TR MOTOR, they don't need buy out the thing, if expertise and capacity is there just invest in. But yes US and EU would block it.
