A Philippine Air Force UH-1H Huey helicopter crashed in a mountainous area in the Bukidnon province in the country’s south, Saturday (Jan. 16) afternoon, killing all seven on board.
The helicopter was carrying supplies to a Forward Operations Base (FOB) of the Philippine Army 8th Infantry Battalion (IB) in the mountains near Impasugong town. The Army’s counterinsurgency forces are fighting communist rebels in the area.
According to local reports, the helicopter crashed in Sitio Nahigit, Barangay Bulonay in Impasugong town, Bukidnon at around 2:22 pm.


The fatalities included five military personnel and two members of the local militia.

The deceased PAF personnel were identified as Lieutenant Colonel Arnie Arroyo, pilot in command; 2nd Lieutenant Mark Anthony Caabay, co-pilot; Staff Sergeant Mervin Bersabi, gunner/crew chief and Airman 1st Class Stephen Agarrado, gunner. They were from the PAF Tactical Operations Group 10, based in Cagayan de Oro City.

The other military fatality was from the Army and he was identified was Sergeant Julius Salvador. The members of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) killed were Cafgu Active Auxiliary Jerry Ayukdo and Jhamel G Sugalang.

Could have been shot down. Tactical group commanders should travel on same vehicle.
