The first fleet capable helicopter type AEGEAN DAUPHIN, which from today returns to active action and surveillance of the national maritime space, received the Coast Guard. The repair of the helicopter, after a damage that had suffered, was carried out thanks to the sponsorship of the Urban Non-Profit Company of Cultural and Public Benefit Project "AIGEAS" interests of Mr. Athanasios and Marina Martinou.
The Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Mr. Giannis Plakiotakis, expressed his gratitude to "AEGEAS" and his satisfaction as he pointed out, "out of the six helicopters acquired in 2004, only one was in service and this would be fixed very soon, having completed his flight hours ".
Referring to the overall work of the Coast Guard, Mr. Plakiotakis noted that: "The total restoration of the Coast Guard to the forefront of securing our national and sovereign rights surprised many as it brought them to a new reality. The Coast Guard remains committed to adhering to international and European treaties to respect and protect human life at sea, having rescued thousands of people in danger. "The numbers prove that we remain steadfast and unwavering."
Finally, he referred to the comprehensive armament program submitted by the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy to the EU, "especially for the strengthening of air resources and personnel with supplies and actions exceeding 85 million euros, through the Integrated Border Management Fund 2021-2027 . The design of the armament programs and the investment plan of the Coast Guard has a horizon of 10 years, and our goal is for every euro to take place ".
On his part, the Commander of the Coast Guard - Hellenic Coast Guard, Rear Admiral L.S. Theodoros Kliaris noted: "The need for air support of the multifaceted work of the Coast Guard as well as the developments in the Eastern maritime borders of our country require the maximum availability of the air fleet. "Given that the useful life of aircraft is generally estimated at forty years, with an average of 20,000 flight hours, the fact that this helicopter has only 1000 flight hours shows the high margins for further operational exploitation."
The ceremony that took place today, at the Megara airport, together with the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Mr. Giannis Plakiotakis, was attended by the Deputy Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Mr. Costas Katsafados, the Chief of the Hellenic Coast Guard. Theodoros Kliaris.
