According to information released by the Russian Press Agency TASS, on October 2, 2020, air defense crews of the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s Admiral Makarov Project 11356 frigate (NATO reporting name: Krivak V) operating as part of the Navy’s permanent formation deployed on the high seas have practiced repelling a simulated enemy’s aerial attack during an exercise in the Mediterranean Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry’s press office said.

“Under the exercise’s scenario, the simulated enemy’s plane obtained the coordinates of the frigate and flew towards the target to deliver a missile attack,” the press office said.
The notional enemy was electronically simulated with the ship’s armament control system. A crew of the combat information center detected and classified the simulated target, while the air defense crews performed simulated missile launches, thus, preventing the missile strike. The exercise was held under the combat training program.
The Admiral Makarov is a third frigate of the Admiral Grigorovich-class Project 11356 of the Russian Navy to be based with the Black Sea Fleet at Sevastopol. She was laid down at the Yantar Shipyard in February 2012 and commissioned on 25 December 2017.
The Admiral Grigorovich Class incorporates a stealthy hull design developed by the Severnoye Design Bureau. The hull and superstructures were designed to have low radar, acoustic and infrared signatures.
The Admiral Makarov frigate is powered by two Combined gas turbine and gas turbine (COGAG). She can reach a maximum speed of 30 kn (56 km/h; 35 mph) with a maximum cruising range of 4,850 nmi (8,980 km; 5,580 mi) at 14 kn (26 km/h; 16 mph). The frigate is also fitted with two DS-71 cruise gas turbines 8,450 shp developing 6,300 kW and two DT-59 boost gas turbines 22,000 shp developing 16,000 kW.
The Admiral Makarov frigate is armed with one 100 mm A-190 Arsenal naval gun, eight (2 × 4) UKSK VLS cells for Kalibr, Oniks or Zircon anti-ship cruise missiles Brahmos for India variants, 24 (2 × 12) 3S90M VLS cells for 9M317M surface-to-air-missiles, two AK-630 CIWS Close-In Weapon Systems, eight Igla-S or Verba surface-to-air missiles, two double 533 mm torpedo tubes and one RBU-6000 rocket launcher.
