One of the main armament programs of the Greek Army is the replacement of the G3A3 and A4 rifles.
Currently the competent services General Staff of the Greek Army evaluate the candiates rifles in order to find the appropriate "Greek rifle" that army will have in the coming years. It is reported that the replacement of the G3 will be "much more reliable and of purely NATO standards".
Candidate rifles are
  • German HECKLER & KOCH with the rifles HK 416 in caliber 5.56mm and HK417 in caliber 7.62mm. The new HK433 rifle has also been offered.
  • Israeli Tavor 7 in caliber 7.62X51 and the X95 in caliber 5.56X45.
  • The Czech CZ with candidate rifles the Bren 2 and Bren 2br.
  • The Italian BERETTA with candidate rifles the Beretta ARX160 in 5.56NATO and Beretta ARX200 in 7.62NATO.
  • The Belgian FN HERSTAL with the rifles SCAR-L ("Light") and SCAR-H ("Heavy"). The SCAR-L is 5.56 NATO caliber and uses STANAG magazines.
  • Τhe American SIG Sauer with candidate rifles the SIG 516 and SIG716 at 5.56 and 7.62 respectively. These are AR-15 rifles with a gas piston mechanism.
In my opion the rifles of the FN and the SIG Sayers have strong lead compared to the others, because they are already in service in the Greek Armed Forces.
Rifles will be manufactured in Greece.

Make the topic a little better as it does not show the sources but the sites of the sources. It also slightly expanded the news to names of Greek rifles that are in the process of certification, etc.

If you click on the names of the sources, then you go straight to the articles that mention the riffle competition.
Regarding the second remark, there is complete secrecy regarding the competition and its course.

AOP was presented to representatives of the General Staff of the Army, and probably stuck to the fact that on the one hand it was an experimental rifle, on the other hand the needs are for a rifle that is already in service.

Indian Army has received it's first tranche of 72k Sig-716s and so far the results have been satisfactory except for the high recoil if the personnel are moving from a 5.56. We've placed a second order for another 72k rifles and given the rift with china in the recent past, another order is expected. These rifles are also cheap at $1k a pop which is similar to the price of an AK-203
SCAR-L ("Light") and SCAR-H ("Heavy"). The SCAR-L is 5.56 NATO caliber and uses STANAG magazines
Tier-1 American SOF units opted to use M4 SOPMOD rifles over Scar...I still feel the SCAR is overrated and expensive
  • Israeli Tavor 7 in caliber 7.62X51 and the X95 in caliber 5.56X45.
Indian SOF units have inducted these ever since the first version of Tavor came out. Infact, a lot of changes and improvements in Tavor/X-95 are made based on inputs from Indian SOF operators since they were the largest users of Tavors. There were recent reports that India's Para-SF plans on replacing Tavors with Scar-H/L and even Israelis intend to phase out Tavors in favor of M4s

https://www.americanisraelite.com/news/israel_news/article_c26a0ac4-1579-11ec-b931-d3a9fe16e527.html

But since Israelis phasing out their own homegrown rifle will affect Tavor sales worldwide and IWI as a company, they decided to use some atleast for namesake

I hope they choose the Scar or the Beretta. Or perhaps the new HK433.

Im really sick of ARs and AKs.
