General evaluation of the last 1 year for TOGG

TOGG Senior Manager Gürcan Karakaş said, "When we enter the market, we will be facing C segment internal combustion SUV vehicles rather than electric vehicles. Therefore, we should be able to compete with them in terms of price."

Good thing they are not taking any chances trying to develop everything in house. It is more important to produce a decent final product that the customer likes than making it highly indigenous. Local input percentage will surely increase over time once domestic companies develop and produce decent amount of cells with good quality.
You are absolutely right on this.

Have a look at Hyundai's first car: https://m.haberturk.com/ekonomi/oto...yilinda-platformunu-forddan-alarak-yola-cikti

It's everything but Korean.

quality > indigenisation

You can always start local production once the right ecosystem has been created later on in the project. Winning customers with quality products is much more important in the beginning.

Hyundai Pony is South Korea's first mass-produced and exported automobile.

From Wikipedia:

When Hyundai wanted to develop their own car, they hired George Turnbull, the former managing director of Austin Morris at British Leyland in 1974.[2] He in turn hired five other top British car engineers, Kenneth Barnett as body designer, engineers John Simpson and Edward Chapman, John Crosthwaite as chassis engineer and Peter Slater as chief development engineer.[3][4] With Turnbull's experience with the Morris Marina, [5] engines and transmissions from Mitsubishi, some parts from the Ford Cortina they were already producing, and a hatchback body styled by Italdesign Giugiaro, they developed the Hyundai Pony.

In 1975, the Pony, the first South Korean car, was released, with styling by Giorgio Giugiaro of ItalDesign and powertrain technology provided by Japan's Mitsubishi Motors. Exports began in the following year to Ecuador and soon thereafter to the Benelux countries. Hyundai entered the British market in 1982, selling 2993 cars in their first year there.[17]

In 1984, Hyundai began exporting the Pony to Canada, but not to the United States, as the Pony would not pass emissions standards there. Canadian sales greatly exceeded expectations, and it was at one point the top-selling car on the Canadian market. In 1985, the one millionth Hyundai car was built.[18]

I really liked this car..

It looks really cool, elegant and expensive* much better than our boxy simple günsel car.. but I wonder what would be the price difference :p An affordable electric car for everyone is needed.. If I were the decision makers, especially in TRNC, I would subsidize electric cars like crazy.. we are 100% depended on imported energy here and it is a small island (also a testbed for Turkey too) so easy to go full electric traffic. Just in 5 to 10 years, subsidize electric and increase carbon tax. And of course electric should be produced from sun /solar.. I never mentioned but I had my masters in solar energy, mostly solar radiation data acquisition, so I know from first hand, TRNC is gifted by solar but we need a reliable base load that's why I always supported an underwater power cable instead of water pipeline* We could have desalinated sea water with solar instead of carrying water resources from Turkey with same amount of investment, what we can't do is to find a power back up for our solar capacity. Solar energy should be supported by flexible base load or a bigger pool of energy like Turkish Grid. Turn TRNC 100% energy independent and watch :))

In recent years Turkey is also active on renewable technologies, I wish they support this with tax reductions! My instructors / advisors were/are working for ODTU GUNAM, even back in 5 years ago a lot of opportunities and research was going on, if enough support given by the government anything could be possible. Future is not in Nuclear or NG, it is in renewables, hydrogen and fusion. Of course in reality 100% solar is not possible, and innovation still needed, like smart and micro grids.

also, I can't imagine the performance of the battery technology after 10 years. Batteries, which are charged in 5 hours today, will be able to charge in 30 minutes...

Charging times are part of innovation and improving day by day but unfortunately battery capacity is still a big problem. Whether it is car, solar Pv farm or any other renewable, storing energy is the biggest barrier. Energy density of current batteries prevent us, and no major change in that technology for decades. That is why we still need base load power plants or hybrid systems in energy generation.

Lithium-Graphene Batteries are comercially awailable and could be the breakthrought we are waiting for.
