There are literally dozens of companies that would invest massively in offshore wind and more PV if the government opened the tenders.

Yes I do agree but I believe that what Turkey needs cant be met with Wind Power and PV alone.

Aegean Sea is a Great Spot to initiate Offshore Wind though.

"A roadmap published by the Izmir Development Agency to promote offshore wind development estimated Turkey's total offshore wind potential at 70 GW"

PV, especially in the South.

I dont mind the nuclear power plant(s) but coal needs to be phased out. Nuclear power plants can only be a stop gap solution as long as, we (as humanity) cant find a way to store the old fuel and rods somewhere safely, or if we get Thorium working.

That being said we need to push renewables as hard as possible and become a net exporter of energy.

December 2021

Tübitak Int’l workshop “Geothermal Energy for Sustainable Development”

1641503940706.png

The guest editors of the special issue of the Journal of Earth Sciences, prepared by Tübitak, are Prof.Dr. Alper Baba and Prof. Dr. Dornadula Chandrasekharam have prepared the special issue of geothermal energy for sustainable development.

As stated on the event website, “Editors received more than 26 MS from authors from different countries working specifically on Advanced Geothermal Systems (EGS). This workshop is organized to bring all participants together on one platform to enhance cooperation and increase and promote the impact of geothermal on the net zero philosophy over the next decade.

“Climate change is now a reality. As proposed by the CoP in Paris in 2015, net-zero by 2050 needs innovation in the use of renewable resources, particularly geothermal, that can generate electricity at baseload and significantly reduce its carbon footprint.”

December 2021

With supporting regulation and better scope of supporting mechanism, Turkish geothermal sector sees an opportunity for additional 2,000 MW in development.

With a development of 200-300 MW per year, the current situation though does not see much development. With an installed power generation capacity of about 1,670 MW, the Turkish geothermal sector was the fastest growing geothermal market in the past few years.

This is because of the scope of the Renewable Energy Resources Support Mechanism (YEKDEM). "The fact that prices have decreased by 30 percent in the new period. In addition, the quarterly implementation of the FX-indexed escalation formula in YEKDEM, which is supported in Turkish lira, also affects investments." he said.

Ali Kindap states a potential of additional 2,000 MW, which could be realised if issues related to price and time are resolved.

And 10 Days later Funding was Secured from the Worldbank

The World Bank has approved two loans of $300 million in funding to help development of over 380 MW of new geothermal capacity in Turkey.

The loans, approved December 15, 2021, are complemented by a $39.8 million grant from the Clean Technology Fund (CTF) as well as a $0.35 million grant from the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP).

“The World Bank is pleased to be a partner of the Government of Turkey in the energy transition effort and the scaling-up of geothermal capacity in particular. Increasing renewable energy generation capacity is critical to achieving energy security and climate change mitigation in Turkey. In addition, attracting climate friendly investment is crucial in Turkey’s energy transition,”.said Auguste Kouame, World Bank Country Director for Turkey.

Team leaders for the Project, Almudena Mateos Merino, Ayse Yasemin Orucu and Manuel Berlengiero, said thatwith the addition of the two new loans, the Geothermal Development Project is expected to finance a total of over 380 MW of new geothermal capacity, mobilize about $555 million of private capital, and contribute to Turkey’s climate commitments by preventing about 30 million tons of carbon emissions over the lifetime of the geothermal projects. In addition, this new financing will support the development of direct uses of geothermal resources and, thus, contribute to local development of communities close to geothermal sources.

If I wrong remember, Aselsan will prepare prototype wind turbine on 2023. I wonder, Another our corporation have any for turbine working?

İğrek Makina Group completed the production of a 1.5 MW domestic direct drive wind generator in Turkey in the field of renewable wind energy production, and it was the first time for the Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank.

1642268094449.png

Being the consortium member and supplier of the MILRES project, Turkey's first wind turbine, İğrek Makina purchased the technology of wind energy facilities up to 5.0 MW from a foreign company that it has been working with for a long time. For this purpose, İğrek Makina, which dismantled the foundry and steel facilities in Germany, where 350 people are employed, capable of casting 200 tons of parts/pieces, and brought it to its factory in Bursa OSB, has thus become the company with the largest piece casting capacity and the largest monthly capacity in Turkey.

For this purpose, İğrek Makina, which started the construction of an integrated facility with an area of 122 thousand square meters in Mustafakemalpaşa with an investment of 30 million Euros, in addition to its 55 thousand square meter foundry in Bursa OSB, will finish the assembly works in the second quarter of 2022.

Turkey's electricity grid is not capable for electric cars. It's one of the baddest of the world with daily maintenances and weekly shortages.

Every day in every city there is a total blackout of plusminus 20 minutes, electricity cables are not under the ground but above the groud, daily accidents and out of orders.

Even the Netherlands with the most modern electricity network of the world gets big problems with the increase of electric cars and charge stations, the grid is not big enough to transfer and use all that renewable energy. Thats is now a big problem in the Netherlands, they are talking to widen the space and capacity of the grid but it would cost billions.

If the Netherlands cant do it, Turkey never can. All those windmills and solarpowerfields are a waste of money, time and environment. Nuclair energy and gas are the solution of everything.

You know, this is pretty amazing. Usually we lack behind in new technology, whether it was solar power or wind.

And this is the real deal, green Hydrogen (from renewables).

I read/checked you preious posts and One thing I can NOT get it .
If we look you latest post. Wind turbines installed on VAN mounts all of them have GE as markings.

Issue for me is you presenting the progess of Turkiye Turbines etc. and how Turkiye went and install them here and there.
Even more that Turkiye turbines are with Highest effectivens to the current world competitors.
So the thing I do not get it is what is this now GE turbines?

Local best and process or plan to place all over Turkiye but pictures show other things GE turbines ..............

A wind turbine system involves many technologies and they use subsystems from different companies. Also they come in many sizes and qualities. Considering that Türkiye is an open market economy it is only natural to see foreign components. Also any aspect of a wind turbine implementation is newsworthy.

STEP BY STEP TOWARDS NATIONAL thorium power plant
Thanks to the Thorium power plant, there will be no need for Uranium FİGES and TÜBİTAK MAM have successfully completed the analysis and design of the heat exchangers of the Thorium-fueled Molten Salt Reactor with a thermal power of 3000 MW, after intense work.

News of a successfully running thorium reactor will probably rank as the top technology achievement news anyone can realistically get. I hope we get there in the next 4 years and then we can export 80% of the natural gas we extract and save the remaining 20% for purposes other than heating.

Is electric heating the best heating technology if electricity were cheap? I think it is.

Thorium molten salt reactors are a realistic way of generating energy, unlike fusion reactors. Once we crack this technology Turkiye will have no energy problems anymore. 3000MW is a huge amount of energy BTW. It is nearly 3x bigger than a single Akkuyu nuclear reactor.

No. It is extremely hard to produce nukes from Thorium because of impurities. When thorium becomes uranium a shit ton of other elements pollute the uranium and removing those elements and purifying uranium is extremely costly and hard.
