A test squadron of the U.S. Air Force successfully carried out the first controlled detonation of the warhead for the new AGM-183A hypersonic air-to-ground missile.
The test was mainly intended to collect data about the lethality of the new and unique weapon. David Spiker, the test's manager, told the Public Affairs division of Elgin Air Force Base in Florida, where the test was held, that the warhead has a unique nature and shape, so new technologies, techniques and methods of examination were used to collect and process data on the performance of the warhead.
The Public Affairs division of Elgin Air Force base did not provide details on the results of the test in terms of the performance of the hypersonic missile.
