After negotiations, the Russian Federation announced differences with NATO

Russia and NATO discussed all the factors influencing the degradation of European security, Grushko said.

Russia and NATO at a meeting on Wednesday, January 12, discussed a number of factors that, in the opinion of the Russian Federation, affect the degradation of European security. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Alexander Grushko.

"Today's meeting was devoted precisely to the analysis of all the factors that affect the degradation of European security, which we have observed in recent years," he said.

The Russian diplomat once again stated that the process of NATO expansion carries unacceptable risks, which Moscow will counter.

“The second factor that seriously affects the deterioration of security in Europe is the process of expanding the alliance. Let me remind you that in 1997 only one country that had a common border with the Russian Federation was knocking on the door of NATO, this is Poland. Today NATO includes many states and their territories are obviously used to project power in the direction of Russia from various geographic directions and onto strategic depths, "Grushko said.

He said that Russia honestly, directly and "without politically correct formulas" pointed out to NATO at the talks the possible consequences for European security in the event of a further deterioration of the situation.

"We pointed out very honestly, bluntly, without trying to go around corners, using any politically correct formulas, that a further slide in the situation could lead to the most unpredictable and most difficult consequences for European security," he said.

"It also seriously degrades our security and creates unacceptable risks for it, which we will counter," he added.

According to him, the negotiations revealed a large number of discrepancies on fundamental issues.

Grushko also said that if NATO goes for containment, the Russian Federation will go for counter-deterrence.

According to him, Russia's proposals to NATO are of a complex nature, all elements are interconnected.

Grushko said that NATO should provide Russia with legal guarantees of non-expansion to the east.

In addition, the Russian Federation expressed concern about the desire of NATO countries to lower the ceiling on the use of nuclear weapons.

"In their military development, the United States and its allies are trying to achieve superiority in all operating environments: land, air and sea. Now space and cyberspace, in all possible theaters of military operations. Conceptually, operationally and technically, the ceiling for the use of nuclear weapons is being lowered. We see that in the scenario of various exercises a nuclear component is introduced, this also causes our most serious concern, "Grushko said.

In general, he called the past talks "a heart-to-heart talk." At the same time, he said that NATO should accept the role of the Russian Federation as a country that guarantees peace in the Euro-Atlantic space if the alliance wants to cooperate.

According to Grushko, Russia expects to get out of the crisis situation in relations with NATO on the basis of a balance of interests.

In turn, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin said that relations between Russia and NATO are at a critically low level.

"Russian-NATO relations are at a critically low level. This is happening against the background of global instability, the terrorist threat, the deployment of another arms race, as well as the complete degradation of the security architecture in Europe," he said.

According to him, the Russian side has repeatedly offered NATO to take measures to de-escalate the situation, but the initiatives were ignored.

Earlier, Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg spoke about the results of the meeting of the Russian Federation and NATO. In particular, he said that Russia was denied its demand for Ukraine's non-admission to the Alliance.

Stoltenberg: Russia will consider NATO proposals

NATO is waiting for Russia's response on further negotiations

The North Atlantic Alliance suggested that Russia hold another series of meetings and consider a number of issues.

During the meeting of the Russia-NATO Council, it was proposed to hold a series of broad consultations on security issues. This was announced by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday, January 12.

"Russia could not agree immediately, but they did not refuse. They said they needed time to return to NATO with an answer," he said.

According to him, NATO is always ready for a meaningful dialogue with Russia.

“We are always ready to engage with the Russian Federation through meaningful dialogue. Russia is our neighbor, we must sit down together and consider common security concerns. We have done this before, it is possible. And I strongly urge Russia to choose this path of cooperation, dialogue and de-escalation," the NATO Secretary General said.

He noted the importance of continuing negotiations because of the risk of a new armed conflict in Europe.

"There is a real risk in relation to a new armed conflict in Europe. That is why today's talks and meetings that are scheduled for this week are so important. Because we are doing everything possible to prevent any armed conflict, because we are so clear in our message to Russia that we should sit down, talk about existing problems in order to prevent a new armed conflict, "Stoltenberg said.

At the same time, according to him, the allies "conveyed a message to Russia that if they choose military force, there will be serious consequences - economic and political sanctions."

“It is also important to understand that Ukraine is a partner to whom we provide political and practical support. But Ukraine is not a member of NATO. Security guarantees – Article 5 – what we call “one for all and all for one” – is applicable for NATO members. Therefore, we have made it clear that we will do whatever is necessary to protect all NATO allies," the Secretary General added.

He noted that NATO is not ready to discuss the key principles of the Alliance.

"The allies have said that they are open to dialogue and we can discuss many issues, but we cannot discuss key principles. Like, for example, the freedom of each country to choose its own path," Stoltenberg said.

According to him, the allies "made it clear that they will not give up their ability to defend each other, including with the presence of troops in the eastern part of the Alliance."

"At the same time, both Russia and NATO allies expressed the need to resume dialogue and study the schedule of future meetings. NATO Allies are ready to meet with Russia again for more detailed discussion, put concrete proposals on the table, and strive for constructive results." added the secretary general.

In particular, NATO proposes that the Russian Federation will consider ways to increase the transparency of military exercises to prevent dangerous military incidents, and reduce space and cyber threats. It is also proposed to consider issues of arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons, including to eliminate mutual restrictions on missiles.

In addition, NATO countries are interested in finding ways to improve civilian and military communication channels, and the possibility of recreating the corresponding offices in Moscow and Brussels.

Expensive invasion. USA proposed sanctions for RF
2700411.jpg

US may impose sanctions against Putin personally

The US Senate has published a draft of sanctions in the event of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, they will affect Putin personally.

The United States continues to think about mechanisms to prevent the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In addition to direct negotiations with Moscow, the US Senate proposes to increase sanctions pressure on Russia. The new package of sanctions that are proposed to be imposed on Russia in the event of an invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine, as well as in the event of a further escalation of the conflict, could become unprecedentedly tough.

What do they offer

The document was introduced by 26 senators headed by Robert Menendez, head of the international affairs committee. According to The Washington Post, the White House supports the proposed sanctions package.

Among the proposed measures are a ban on entry into the United States and a freeze on American assets of the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Minister of Defense of Russia, as well as commanders of various types of troops and other persons whom the White House considers involved in aggression against Ukraine.

Within 30 days of the invasion, the US President will be required to impose sanctions on at least three major Russian banks. It is also proposed to impose sanctions against Russian external debt and against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

In addition, within six months, the Ministry of Finance, the State Department and intelligence will have to publish a detailed report on the property of Vladimir Putin, his relatives and close businessmen. Sanctions may also be applied to them.

Also, the United States will have to increase military assistance to Ukraine.

Russia's actions

Against the background of these news, Russia continues to transfer troops to the Ukrainian border. Over the past week, analysts from the Conflict Intelligence Team (CIT) have found about 30 videos on social networks that indicate the transfer of military personnel and equipment from Siberia and the Far East to the western regions of Russia.

In the videos, the equipment is captured on the roads in the process of being loaded onto railway platforms and on trains moving west. Trucks, tankers, infantry fighting vehicles, Grad and Uragan multiple launch rocket systems were spotted on the platforms.

The military is traveling along with the equipment in passenger and freight cars, according to CIT. How many of them have not been installed yet. Analysts have identified several points for sending equipment: Ulan-Ude (Buryatia), Borzya (Trans-Baikal Territory), Belogorsk (Amur Region) and Ussuriysk (Primorsky Territory). In this regard, the CIT suggested that the equipment belongs to the formations of all four armies of the Eastern Military District.

What to expect

According to the Washington Post, US intelligence agencies believe that Vladimir Putin has probably not yet made a final decision on whether to go to war.

The US presidential administration proceeds from the fact that the crisis will continue for a long time, but if it does not come to war, part of Putin's demands on the West can be met in such a way that both sides will feel more secure without sacrificing basic NATO principles.

The Biden administration is ready to agree to mutual restrictions on conducting military exercises near the borders and not to deploy offensive weapons there (Moscow often complains about the short "flight time" of missiles stationed in Europe). It is also ready to stop flights of strategic bombers near the Russian borders.

BRUSSELS, January 12. /TASS/. The United States and allies once more warned Russia at the Wednesday meeting of the NATO-Russia Council about significant measures if Moscow invades Ukraine, US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman said at a press conference after the meeting.

"We have made it clear and we told the Russians directly again today that if Russia further invades Ukraine, there will be significant costs and consequences well beyond what they faced in 2014," she said.

According to Sherman, they are "economic measures" that will have an impact on Russia’s economy and financial system.

And Norway. And the United States which has a direct sea border with Russia from the East that the Russian government keeps forgetting about, which is weird since the US already used that route once to launch an expeditionary force into Russia to fight communists during the Russian Civil War. Plus there's the Baltic states, who arrived later but are a closer location from which to hypothetically invade the heart of Russia than Ukraine.

Canada supports Ukraine amid Russian aggression

The Foreign Ministers considered steps to contain the Russian Federation from a new wave of aggression in Europe, in particular, the consequences for Moscow in the event of an escalation of the conflict.

On Wednesday, January 12, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba had a telephone conversation with his Canadian counterpart Melanie Joly, during which the parties discussed the talks between Russia and NATO regarding Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the domestic Foreign Ministry.

So, during the conversation, Joly noted the unacceptability of the demands of the Russian Federation to provide her with guarantees that Ukraine will not join the North Atlantic Alliance and announced the support of our state against the backdrop of the buildup of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border.

The ministers also discussed steps to deter Russia from a new wave of aggression in Europe, in particular, the implementation of "a complex containment package that is painful for Moscow, including political, economic and security measures."

In addition, during the talks, Kuleba and Joly touched upon such important issues as the further development of cooperation between Ukraine and Canada in the field of security and defense and the intensification of cooperation to hold Iran accountable for the downing of the PS752 aircraft.

Recall, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, following a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council, said that the Russian Federation called on the Alliance not to grant membership to Ukraine and was refused.

NSDC Secretary Oleksiy Danilov

The National Security and Defense Council sees no signs that something could happen at the border in the coming days, and the situation is predictable.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexei Danilov said that at the moment there is no preparation for the start of aggressive military operations by Russia. He said this in an interview with Ukrainian Pravda.

"If necessary, we have clearly written all these procedures. Accordingly, we have gone through all the necessary preparatory stages. To date, there is no direct preparatory process for aggressive actions, that something serious will happen tomorrow," Danilov said.

At the same time, he said that the society will be informed if urgent preparations begin.

"If it happens tomorrow, we will definitely communicate with the public on this matter. Certain processes can take place very quickly, to which we must respond," the NSDC Secretary added.

According to him, there is nothing unpredictable in the accumulation of Russian troops on the border with Ukraine.

A separate meeting of the National Security and Defense Council did not meet to consider a possible Russian invasion of the territory of Ukraine, however, a meeting is held weekly, where they sum up the results of the week and analyze all the information.

Danilov said that representatives of intelligence, the military, security services and certain other structures are gathering to discuss the situation. About 18 people work in this group.

Also, every day the situation is reported to President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Laying mines is the worst attack scenario for those who want to invade a foreign country. Any Ukraine tank wont enter Russian territory so there is nothing to worry about mines for Ukrainian Army. Vice versa invaders should worry about mines which prevent going further.

No worries ☺️

US pledges to strengthen military support for Ukraine

13 January 2022, 17:33

If necessary, Washington intends to further strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities.

The United States intends to increase military support for Ukraine and impose sanctions against Russia in the event of an escalation of tensions. This was announced by the head of the US Department of State Anthony Blinken on the air of MSNBC TV channel on Thursday, January 13.

"The countries of the Group of Seven (G7), the leading democratic economies of the world, have announced serious consequences, the same position is adhered to by the European Union and NATO. Together we will introduce very significant financial and economic sanctions and take measures that have not been taken before," Blinken said.

"At the same time, we expect, if necessary, to further strengthen the defense capabilities of Ukraine, as well as NATO," added the US Secretary of State.

Blinken also reiterated that NATO would not abandon its open door policy.

"NATO's door is open, if countries want to join, this is their sovereign right, of course, if they meet the criteria. NATO's door is open, this is a fundamental principle that Russia is trying to force us to abandon. We will not do this," he said.

In addition, Blinken assured that the West would not agree with the demand to deny Ukraine the prospect of NATO membership. "It just doesn't lie on the negotiating table," he said.

"If there is a challenge to European security, it does not come from NATO, it comes from Russia. There are ways to solve this problem: diplomatically, through dialogue ... Let's see if Russia is ready to cooperate in this direction. If it is ready, we can resolve it is peaceful, without conflict. Obviously, this is the preferred option for everyone, "Blinken said.

Wars are not merely an offensive operation. Special forces can lay these mines behind the enemy front line with infiltration operations. In this way, it can end the enemy's attack or maneuverability.

Again, these mines can be used by special forces for war of attrition. With these mines, the Russians can tactically pretend to retreat and then catch the tank battalions attacking them by surprise. War is just trickery. Only those who know how to use the equipment in their hands can achieve victory.
In this respect, hardware capabilities are simply not sufficient. The key to a qualified operation, on the other hand, can only be executed by being based on sound doctrines.

Actually, in summary, wars are the art of using equipment developed for a certain definition in the field for different purposes. Your ability to improvise determines how adaptable you are to the field.

That's why Ukrainian Army has Bayraktar drones to gather intelligence and to prevent infiltration. However those paper tigers how could infiltrate with huge mine layer lories into Ukraine ? How many of those lories could lay mines to trap a whole national army? 500 mine layers could be effective:) Currently Russian army just has air superioty advantage.

The Russians use this nuclear power plant as a power source for electronic warfare. And they can put pressure on the field with very high powers. So much so that they have the capacity to obscure even the Turkish navy in the Black Sea. (I personally heard this from @TayfunOzberk) Ukraine remains a snack for them besides the Turkish Navy.
