Ukraine to buy two nuclear reactors from the United States - media
December 3, 2021,
At the Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant, they intend to build two new nuclear power units, which will use Westinghouse reactors, media write.
Ukrainian Energoatom will buy on credit from American Westinghouse two reactors for nuclear power plants, writes Mirror of the Week on Friday, December 3.
"Westinghouse needs to sell two sets of equipment for the AR-1000 reactors left over from the failed construction in the United States. Under the terms of the contract, the company must do this by 2025, preferably at a higher price. This is what it is doing. They are going to send these sets to the Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant," in the article.
According to the newspaper, the reactors "lie idle" for about five years and in case of purchase they will continue to lie for the same amount.
According to media estimates, Energoatom and Westinghouse will not have enough funds to build reactors, so they will be built using credit funds, including under state guarantees.

As a reminder, on November 22, Energoatom signed two agreements with Westinghouse on the implementation of projects for the construction of two new power units at the Khmelnitsky NPP.
