Turkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to activate “deterrence measures” under the Mecca Alliance to deter the Houthis.

Hakan Fidan pointed out that a diplomatic and peaceful solution is being discussed as well. So, I don't expect a full blown war that Türkiye is involved. They will settle for a deal after a little bit of beating.

Meanwhile, we should hopefully get a base in SA to ensure security of Bab al Mandab and to project power south of Israel.

Apart from securing bases I'm completely opposed to this adventure.

I'm sorry but PKK is politically stronger than ever within Türkiye, Greece feels emboldened, Cyprus is arming up, but sure, let's deploy troops in Saudi Arabia to defend a holy site

This isn't about Israel either. Do you seriously think the US would be so supportive if this alliance was about Israel?

It should be pretty obvious already, that this is all about Iran. We're literally assisting with hunting their proxies lol. We're literally hunting proxies that have fired ballistic missiles at Israel, yet we're supposed to believe that this alliance somehow aims to combat Israel.

What happened to the "ummah"?

I'm not pro-Iranian, but Sunni Islamists are a perplexing bunch.

A second Turkish official said Ankara planned to station military forces at at least one command base.

Saudi sources told MEE that Turkish forces would operate alongside their Saudi and Pakistani counterparts at a joint coordination base, while the Turkish command unit would maintain a separate base of its own.
So, we are having our own base in SA 🥳🥳🥳

The Turkish military is expected to contribute to the defence of the holy cities.
Ne kanlar akıttık hep senin için,
O ulu Kitâb’ın hakkıçün aziz…
Gücümüz erişsin ve erişmesin,
Uğrunda her zaman döğüşeceğiz.

Yapamaz Ertuğrul evlâdı sensiz,
Can verir, cânânı veremez Türkler.
Ebedi hadim’ül haremeyniniz,
Ölsek de Ravza’nı rûhumuz bekler…

I have a theory about this that I cannot prove.

I think the current geopolitical environment allows us to build a coalition that appears to be against Iran. Presenting it this way could prevent possible American opposition and might even help us gain support.

Under this pretext, Türkiye could expand its military presence and influence in Saudi Arabia and Yemen -effectively around the Bab el-Mandeb- by using the Houthi threat as a justification, while using Hezbollah as a reason to expand its presence in Syria and Lebanon.

In such an environment, Israel would potentially be the only country with which Türkiye would eventually come into direct confrontation. Until then, Türkiye could continue to present its actions as part of the broader effort to fight Iran and contain its regional influence.

I suspect there may actually be some mutual understanding between Türkiye and Iran on this issue, perhaps even some kind of agreement. I do not think the ultimate goal is to completely eliminate either the Houthis or Hezbollah. My guess is that both groups will be weakened to some extent, after which they will reach an agreement. And perhaps, one day, we could even find ourselves fighting on the same side.

Word is a Houthi ballistic missile hit an ammunition depot at King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait and it cooked off.
Gotta say, the gap between the two sides in how well they use precision munitions is seriously impressive.
Meanwhile the Saudi Air Force is busy carpet-bombing civilian facilities in Sanaa, and it's hard to see how that's supposed to do anything to stop Houthi frontline units from advancing.

Or,they used them all defending Israel from Iranian missiles.
CENTCOM pulled from East Asia/Europe's air defense missile stockpiles a long time ago and handed a good chunk of them to Saudi Arabia, so they should still have plenty of ammo.
Or, the sheer number of radars Iran took out has left their air defense net full of holes.

For a country spending $80 billion on defence yearly, this is ridiculous.
The Saudis should be ashamed.

No such thing as shame for a people who were rewarded by Allah 100 years of being the West's meatgrinder for turning on the "ummah" in the end days of the ottoman empire.

If the Saudi air force keeps bombing Yemen, this kind of thing will definitely keep happening. Several countries have only just issued travel warnings for Saudi Arabia.
It's hard to imagine they could pretend nothing happened for this long.
Saudi Arabia cant stop its airstrikes as it is the only thing preventing the Houthis from taking control of the city of Taiz, Yemen's second most populpus city. The implications of losing Taiz is so severe that if I were in crown prince MBS's place, I would endure the airstrikes until I finish re-arranging my forces and start a new counterattack towards Sanaa; however, i dont think MBS has that kind of patience tbh

Losing Taiz city, the only city within Yemen's mountainous terrain under Saudi-backed forces' control, means that the Houthis have enclosed themselves within a network of heavily fortified mountains that will be a menace towards any faction that aims at toppling them in the future. Moreover, if Houthis blackmail succeed this time in preventing further airstrikes, then what guarantee do you have that the Houthis wont blackmail the Saudis again, but from a stronger position than today, to obtain further concessions in the future?
